As some of you may have read, my relationship ended this past friday, and I hate the alone feeling already:LOL: I was thinking of subscribing to some dating site, so was wondering, has anyone here found their girlfriend through the internet?

I have to get on with my life, no point crying over spilled milk, I been a mess for 3 days and this is enough for me, she will still linger a bit in the back of my mind but once new love intrests start knocking at my internetdoor the quicker I can forget about her completely.

Also took up bodybuilding again, haven't done that since I met her, i'm also going cycling alot more now.

So tell me your stories about internet dating, haven't done that shit yet,

Yours truly,

PC

My dad did. but none of them worked because of distances. I used myspace to find an old friend who i hadnt seen for years who is now my girlfriend if that counts.

Ive not used dating sites though.

I met my wife on MSN chat rooms almost 8 years ago now. We met and got married about a year after being together in person. We now have a son together and i wouldn't change one second of it even the bad times.

Had a few dates through the dating websites. Currently seeing this one girl for the past month, really like her but last week she asked if we could cool it a little - too serious too fast. Shes still chatting to me every day so /shrug.. have to wait it out and see I guess.

But yeah, distances can be a problem. This last girl ive seen 3 times, had to travel almost 100 miles each way by train so it can be a bitch, but ultimately if you like each other enough distance is just a number. My mother is getting married to a guy from the USA this month so it can work.

Thats nice to hear, and for me these distances aren't a problem cuz its a website that only lists all the people from my country and my neighbouring country, and its not a large country, so the max I would ever have to travel would be 100km and thats doable. But mostly it would be more like 30-60km on average.

i met my wife in the dreamcasts dreamarena thing and kinda stalked her, took the piss out of her etc.
then i got a pc and forgot about her until i heard of a chatroom where alot of the dreamcast users were going that pc users could also goto, saw her on there and stalked her some more Laughing
it was an awesome chatroom aswell, you could use html code to boot all the dreamcast users out Very Happy you could also use html to make it look like someone in the room was talking so there were quite a few people in there with split personailities that would argue with themselfs Laughing

one night she was drunk and i managed to get her phone number even though i was an ass to her Laughing
we ended up chatting on the phone alot sometimes for 4+ hours at a time and i got my parents a phone bill of over £800 quid which they werent to happy about.

i think we were only chatting on the phone for around a month before she came to visit me while i was still living at my parents house and she asked if i wanted to go back to her house with her half way across the country for a week or two, so i did that and never left Very Happy
got my parents to bring me all my stuff a few weeks after.

that was around 8 years ago and we've been married for around 7 years + have a kid together. Laughing

neither of us were actually seeking a relationship though.

btw one of her older friends who i think was around 30 dumped his wife and moved to america to be with some woman he talked to on the internet

weve not heard or seen from him since so i can only assume it worked out and hes still with her , either that or she was some crazy woman that burried him in her basement

man, you dont need a woman to complete you. sure, the alone feelings are there when you just break up with someone but still. I was like that when I divorced my ex.
But then time passes and you find that being single isnt so bad. you get the opportunity to meet new women, be with more than one woman with no strings (if you catch my drift) etc

All Im saying is the loneiness will go away bud. Just jump into a relationship too quick. give yourself time to heal and get over your ex.

When I first divorced from my ex, i met a girl who litterally was perfect for me. but because of my emotional baggage, it didnt work out.
Women can sense when your all over the place. Dont get into a new relationship till you've had time to get over your ex. and a couple of days isnt enough time bud

Im just looking out for you man. Ive been in your shoes and i do know what Im talking about

lol bet that happens alot, guess it depends on how you meet the person, nearly all of the photo's on dating sites are probably heavily edited or fakes if not pictures from 10+ years ago when they were attractive
everyone in any dating chat rooms are probably slim busty blondes aswell but half are probably men wanting cyber sex Laughing

yeah, it is true. a woman completes a man.

im just saying its not a good idea to get into a relationship with a woman after dealing with a emotional break up. things tend to fall apart. give it some time, find yourself, be comfortable with yourself then seek out a woman.
Im speaking from experience here you know?

How much time is enough?
A common friend of ours has isolated himself. Nine years and still single. Worries me because I believe no one more than him deserves to be happy.

it depends on the person. Id say atleast 3 months you know? maybe even 6.

9 years is excessive granted. But a cooling off period is needed or you'll ruin the relationship your trying to get into with emotional baggage

I know how that is. I still loved my exwife after our first divorce. But after our second, I said fuck her. the only feelings i have for her now is hate and resentment

I think if you are a smart and reasonable person who has 2 feet planted firmly on the ground you would OK net dating. The reason I say firmly on the ground is because if you are a head case with confidence issues you are prop going to gravitate toward people who seem to be too good to be true and are telling you want you want to hear, need to hear instead of the truth, IMO.

I don't know about any of the dating sites mentioned but I think dating sites and typical hooking up sites are a load of trouble. Too many hookers playing their trade and too many looser men trying to find sex for a one night stand PLUS get a free place to stay while in town. Even still tho, there are good people on those sites and their is always a possibility.

I met a smart women who met her husband through a Philipino dating site. She was living here in Canada and he was living in Austrialia. They chatted for 6 months and he flew out to her when she was visiting her family back home as a surprise. They got married and he moved over here. They really got along great.

WerderCanuck (orig. from Germany) met and married his Vancouver Island Canadian chick on IRC. He swept her off her feet with "The Thumb". Remember that thread?. Seriously tho according to him she was a hard one to catch. I haven't seen him on here for quite a while but it seemed like they were really happy.

I don't think it's down to confidence though. I mean my mate is supremely confident he can speak to anyone. But he puts up a barrier with women. Well apart from me that is and no it's nothing like that.

@jenni

I am using confidence as an example, but for sure, there are so many other factors.

@everybody else

I have never dated off the net or met someone but I would never rule out the possiblity. No doubt I would be totally carefull.

For me I think time would be a huge factor. If I had been yapping to someone for quite a while and they consistent with what they said I would prob consider it. You can get a feel for someone.

In the older days when we didn't have computers people talked via snail mail as pen pals. Just through letters people would get to know each other. Sometimes when people are apart the letters are all we have.

@syco
With regards to your earlier post about being taken by some chick who pretended to be something she wasn't, just think of it as an experience. Not a big deal and I think it is too be expected 80% of the time if you are into internet dating. I could never do an internet date site, just because when it is advertised all the women act like a bunch of hoes. In my neck of the woods anyway.

I consider myself too smart to be sucked in by something that sounds too good to be true, and me looking early on doesn't mean I am gonna find one in a week. I think I will need atleast a month to get over my past relationship, if I find someone new by then then its fine by me.

I met my three last girlfriends online, the third one being my current GF, wich i've been together with for 1½ years now.

The two previous relationships would've ended the same way, regardless if we met online or not. If anything, we wouldn't have met at all if it wasnt for the net.

My parents and I have talked about this before, since when they were young there was no internet, and like 90% of the people back then got together with someone from their home or neighbouring town.

So yeah, I think meeting peope online is a great thing, as long as people are honest about who they are.

dont forget, its 2008 now, not 1999, meeting people from the internet is normal now Laughing

And its a hell of a lot more likely to work these days since its accepted. Myspace and Faceparty revolutionized it all in a way.

jenni .. Sy .. what kind of relationship can you expect if its based on need rather than want ? My point is until your good alone, you can't ever really offer what makes man complete woman & vice versa.

As for internet dating .. never done it. Don't expect to either. Never have been one for looking for a date. Relationships to me are as naturally occurring as autumn following summer Neutral ..
