Everything worked fine until I got a new Samsung Lcd and connected through HDMI. Every other game I have works flawlessly, but gta looks like crap and the textures are constantly rehashing while buildings disappear then reappear. The road's texture will turn to moosh and the car just floats for a few moments and then it's back to normal.

What's going on?

Does your tv have a gaming mode? Were you using the same hdmi cable before? Do you have a different hdmi? Have you read the manual for the tv to see if some HDMI's are setup a certain way?

Are you saying the quality of the cable has a crucial role here? I don't know what you mean by "gaming mode", it's a 32" Samsung lcd and all other games work with no issues. I also don't have another HDMI cable here.

Could it be a dodgy copy?
I don't know how to fix the problem, I'm just narrowing the problem down.

What are you outputting from the xbox 720p or 1080i?

Do you have a hard drive on your xbox?

What happens is that the X360 has problems reading the content of the disc. Could be the DVD-ROM, the disc or something like that. The problem can occur if you drive really fast in the game for a while, the box can't read the content fast enough from the disc and thus it will not be able to load textures etc for buildings as fast as they should be displayed.

I'd say that the above could really be a problem if you flashed your X360 with a firmware that has slower read-speed then 12x.

I am outputting 1080i. Anyway, it seems to be fine now, maybe a little caching was needed for the new resolution, I don't know... Hope it sticks.

Hi,

I have X360 Arcade (BenQ drive) with iXtreme 1.4.1 (x12), no HDD - GTA burned with either BenQ DW1650 and Pioneer DVR-115D on Verbatim (MKM 001). It's not the first game I've burned.

There are glitches - textures can't load when I'm cruisin' through the city. I've read all over the net about these glitches and can't think of a solution. I think it's the FW, but why?? It's only on BenQ drives I think.

I'm little worried about the original game - is it safe to buy? Or it will be the same?

Many tv's have game modes, my Samsung LE40R81 has it. The refresh rate is bumped up form 50Hz to 60Hz, which is supposed to give a smoother picture with games. I never compared it, has aways been on 60Hz here.

Nothing similar to Saints Row happend here either.. but when you drive fast as fuck and then crash you can see some of the textures haven't been updated (so it looks kinda blury) but its the same in all games.

You need HD shortly after hooking one up the game will work perfectly. If it doesn't your having a media issue as well. However, it seems for GTA to function properly you need an HD.

or buy it. The original disc does not suffer from those issues.

i have the original game for ps3 and my bud has the game for the xbox. even tho the xbox does have problems with it, its only minor problems

As for the ps3 copy, i havent had a problem yet. probably because it copies a portion of the game to the hdd

Some guy on youtube showed the difference between HDD and no HHD with GTA IV, there wasnt any difference...

Many people have problem with GTA IV and Benq drive, i have it as well.. People who has the benq and bought the original reports that the the slow texture readings / pop-ups etc are gone.. It's discussed on many forums..

It's the original game. I've modded the Xbox yesterday, the game still worked as before. Maybe the iso floating around isn't good enough.

yeah just like i said then, it works if you have the original and a benq drive.. there's nothing wrong with the iso, people with drives other than benq would've had bad performance as well..

i use Verbatim (the 2,4x ones that are supposed to be the best for 360 according to most people). Works great for every game i've tried.. Burned 3 GTA IV copies (2 using imgburn 1 using clonecd, 1x to 2.4x speed) all have difficulties keeping up with the game when you drive very fast, the dialogues takes some time too, eg you have to wait like 5 sec each time you get a phone call for the conversation to start...

I've read at least 50 posts so far from people using Benq that has the same problem no matter what media they've tried..

ordered some other different brands, gonna see if they work better, but i'm sceptical.. probably going to end up paying more for these "coasters" than the original game lol

I actually don't really have any issues. I get the occasional popup in an area i haven't ever been in. Other then that though it normally works great.

Edit:

BenQ Verb @ 2.4x

12x 1.4 not the 1.41 firmware.
