cutting off credits?

i recently downloaded a movie that is 705MB (last couple of minutes are credits)
and i want to burn it onto a 700mb size cd.

is there a way to chop off the last few minutes?

or is there a compressor thing that can shrink it (I want to be able to play on regular DVD players)

Virtuadub will allow you to edit avi files
tmpegenc will let you do Mpg
