VGAdeadcafe, so far all I can think of is pretend like I don't know what happened. I actually didn't SPILL water on it though. I did something quite extremely stupid. Since my internet doesn't work on my computer but the wireless internet on my mothers laptop works, I figured Il just use the laptop for a few days.
So I told her today that Im going to be using her laptop for a few days. Usually the laptop is just sitting in the living room. But I can't stand when things are dirty so I decided to clean it with irish spring soap and water. I cleaned every part of that laptop including th screen. And well its very very clean on the outside but very fucked up on the inside now. So thats actually what happened.
So now I put the laptop back in the living room and plugged this monitor I found in the other room, to the laptop. She brought home some white monitor from work and she was telling me earlier today to find out if the white monitor works or not. If she asks, tommorow morning, why there are lines on the laptop screen, Il tell her maybe that new monitor she brought home has a virus on it. So i itl totally be her fault for bringing that crap monitor home..
THats the best I can do

Simply say you cleaned it and for some reason or another some water got in between the frame and the screen...bad seal or somet...not your fault now is it
Soap to clean a laptop! LOL!!
What on earth were you thinking?
I'd say tell the truth and yes you'll get told off, but at the end of the day she'll respect you more for (pardon the pun ) coming clean.
I mean what are the chances of it getting screwed up after she specifically told you not to clean it.
Plus the fact that you're even more screwed if she does a search on the net and finds out you're telling fibs.
What kind of Laptop is it? Maybe you can pick up a second hand one quite cheap, or even a used screen or new one.
timechange01, how old are you? I mean, seriously, soap and water for cleaning anything even remotely related to electronics? And then you go and think about the silliest excuses lmao. A virus in the monitor? Be a fucking man, stand up to your mother and say the truth. She's your mother ffs (unless she's one of ).
Usually I don't do this but this thread really made me
You should've listened to your mother, she obviously knows more about computers and hardware than you do.
Again it's you're mother yet you expect her to believe your lies to cover up the fact that you've no balls and such cannot stand up for yourself and what you've done.
Another thing I forgot to mention is, now the touchpad doesn't work properly. Its working better than last night though. Last night the mouse cursor was moving on its own and I got all freaked out. I also forgot to mention that I have house guests staying with us this week and they were in the living room when i took and brought the laptop back. And so they totally ratted me out.
So this morning I wake up at 1pm and shes knocking on my door like a maniac for like 2 minutes. The knock of death. Tis was the longest 2 minutes ever. I just pretended I was asleep. My plan was to pretend Im asleep all day until she goes to bed at night but then I realized how ridiculous that sounds. So I came out of my room and ran to the bathroom and took a long 1 hour steaming shower.
After I came out of the bathroom, she confronted me and I came clean. I told her everything. That I washed her laptop with soap. She pretty much knew because I was telling her yesterday that I was gonna clean it with soap. I told her after I cleaned it with soap and water, I used a hair dryer to dry it and thats how it got messed up (which is a little lie). I didnt want the whole thing to get blamed on the soap because she specifically told me not to wash it with soap or water.
And I didn't think the laptop would malfunction because I clean my phone and remote with soap and water all the time. I also clean my xbox 360 controller with soap and water and nothing ever went wrong. But anyways I plugged a little mouse into the USB drive of this laptop so theres no mouse issues but the 2 lines are still there and theres also this weird lookin thing on the right of the screen. Its hard to describe. I will take a picture of this screen as soon as my cousin comes back from austria with my camera. He comes back on Thursday I believe.
Anyways the right side of the screen looks like. I will try to describe what it looks like...
Its like when you have a spill of water on a table and you try to wipe it up with a plastic bag, and after you place the bag flat on the water, it just looks strange. Thats what it looks like. It looks like the water is trapped and squashed between the screen and the back of the screen. Theres a a slight discoloration as well. But the discoloration is not nearly as visible as the 2 lines. 1 line is blue and the other is red. There was a 3rd line last night which ran right across the middle of the screen it was turquoise color. But that middle line is gone.
So yes the yelling has stopped. For now at least...

man, seriously, based on what ive read (and im not being sarcastic or anything), you owe your mom a new laptop.
Seriously. if someone washed my laptop with soap and fucked it up, thats what i would as for whether its my kid or not.
Your not a child, she obviously knew what she was saying. Hence the reason she said no.
Sometimes, parents know what they're talking about dude (and more than enough times, they dont, but still)/
Well I told her that I can take the screen apart and try to fix it within the next few weeks. Shes totally cool with it now. She doesn't seem to be mad at all anymore. They (family members and mom) were actually laughing it up because of the soap. Not like a "haha theres soap in my laptop" but more like a "my son does dumb things" sort of laugh. But I cant blame her since this 1 thing was definitely my fault.
But anyways Im just glad that Im still alive.
