Well my gf of 9 years told me friday she's moving on. It didn't come as a complete shock, the last six months have been hell. I don't even know what to do with myself anymore.

A little more info:

Basically it boils down to her being 29 and not having done anything with herself. She wants to travel the world freely and I can't. I am not going to go into details about why, but i have a good job and i can't afford to lose it.

First and fore-most take care of your family and yourself, everybody else is secondary. Worry about your own well being and keep moving forward. You may feel like shit for a bit but you'll realize very fast all the new doors open to you.

Good Luck man.

I dont think he is liable to stoop as low as that! you would have to have no self respect to shag a prossie, and sex is not the be all and end all of a meaningful relationship. After a long time together other things matter more than getting your end away.

When these types of things happen after so long there are always other issue's, I would be awefully suspect if after 9 years of being in an ideal (or even really healthy) relationship that someone would just decide that they had to travel the world. Furthermore travelling the world and breaking up are mutually exclusive, obviously there are other factors.

I wish you well, but it's time to move on. You sound like you have a great job since it is so important to you, build upon it form other healthy relationships with people.

Take some personal time and be well.

It's really hard to start being well as she still lives in my house. Yeah i agree there is more to it, maybe sometime in the future i'll find out what it was. Either way, I am not going to try and mend this relationship - not this time. I'm done!

Edit:

She doesn't just want to travel. She wants to goto school, then travel. Going to school in a different state. In the end, though i'm no longer the raver/party kid i used to be so she if probably trying to find the old me again.

Sad That really sucks. I wish you the best!

I'm in a relationship for 3 years now and I think that I know my soon-to-be-wife very well. I would never expect her to leave for such... basic things! Infact, she could go to school with you. And she could travel with you, when you have time. But she doesn't want to wait anymore.

I think that she lost her feelings towards you and it's a pitty that you still don't know how all of this happened.

Didn't you always talk about your dreams? About your thoughts regarding the feature of you two?

I hope that won't happen to me.

Yeah we did - she was actually opening a restaurant. I thought she wanted to do that for awhile. It was actually a total shock to me when she said screw that i'm leaving. The place is opening next month and she was going to be the manager/head chef. Which IMO is pretty good for somebody with no education.

I thought being a chief required education. Well to be a good one anyway in a decent restaurant.

Ya, but that is pub food, so you aren't really making it. It is frozen and premade. It is one thing to made something for a couple of people, but different to make food taste good at a restaurant. There is a lot of prep work and such, things have to sit in the fridge.

I guess if that is your idea that the realationship is doomed (don't last forever) when you go into it, that is what will end up happening. All relationships take effort.

well - thanks for the reply's from the people that were decent enough to say something somewhat genuine. Also, a big fuck you, to the people who felt it necessary to be gaping assholes. Do i expect any less, no! Does that mean i can't hate you for it, no!
