I had to enter a key to unlock the trial version when I bought it but either way it's worth supporting the developers on this one so you shouldn't feel too gypped As for the best mods it honestly depends on what you like but you can't go wrong with anything in the Hall of Fame at rFactor central. You'll wanna sign up for some leagues as well to get the most out of the game, rFactor central and rscnet forums are good ways to find these.

He's being helpful, what's the big deal? The rscnet forums are a respected place for racing games (developers use it), so it's not like he's spamming.

Depends what year, the most recent I know of is this; http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=F1%202007%20MMG
I've not had any time to test it myself though so can't vouch for it.
And as for leagues, there are many but these guys are a friendly non-elitist bunch if you're interested, sign up on their forums and let yourself be known; http://www.fgw-team.com

Thanks for that link it's exactly what I was looking for, what a fantastic mod! I'm driving the McLaren and even with Level 6 traction control control it isn't easy, but I'm starting to get familiar with it. I'm finding it quite difficlut to keep the car in a straight when racing down the fast straights due to the bobbling effect on the car. I'm new to the game so it's going to take some practice. This racing sim feels much more realistic than any other racing game I have ever played on the PC, especially when accelerating and decelerating, it's very immersive.
I've been thinking of getting a decent FF wheel for a while, something that's going to last a while but isn't a ridiculous price. Any suggestions?

i race at http://www.race2play.com , great league races, with at least one steward every race. I use GTR2 though, but a lot of rfactor races.

I prefer GTR2, but rFactor has a lot more variety in terms of modifications.
The G25 is a great wheel and pedals combo, but it's a bit expensive for your first wheel (you don't know whether you're going to enjoy it or not - and the clutch isn't important). The MOMO is cheaper but the pedals will eventually break, they did on me and they have on practically everyone else's you speak to. Still if you can get a cheap deal (for a new one) then it'll last you until you decide to upgrade (as it did me).

I've had my MOMO for some years now and the wheel is just like brand new but the pedals are in a box in the corner of the room in pieces (I lost my temper with them one day whilst trying to fix them ) I can't give you any hard facts because it all depends on what way you use them, how often and a bit of luck. You'll get at least a year out of them and you'll know when they are starting to go - at which point you can apply a quick fix with software, and then when it really goes you can open it up and try and fix it (there are guides on the net - but my experience was not good heh).

Richard Burns Rally, GTR2, Live for Speed, Nascar Racing 2003 - worth a look.
