Ok, I understand that whole idea behind using the ram to cache as much information as possible. It's logical, and makes good use of the ram all the time. And after using the OS for awhile, there's a lot of nice improvements from a low level perspective all the way to the "pretty-ness". Enough that I'd be hard pressed to go back to XP.
So maybe you experience vista users can shed some light. I have a pretty archaic system by today's standards, but if I want to consider helping family members and friends, I need to learn this OS. My problem is the memory consumption. I have 1GB of ram. Superfetch (and even with it disabled, so maybe I did it wrong) will gobble about half that. If I'm reading the resource manager right. In task manager I get this:
Total: 1022
Cache: 582
Free: 0
And it's sucking up 800MB of pagefile too!
Where'd that other 500MB go?? I literally cannot find it anywhere. Adding up the memory usage in resource manager doesn't seem to hold the answer. What gives? (Private workspace is the memory that particular program itself has allocated, right?) And yes, I'm looking at processes from ALL users, I'm not that daft
Also, I love how I went from 38 processes in XP to 51 (lol at Media Center taking 6 processes)
