Does any1 kno' how to convert DVD-R (or DVD's with menus) video files into great quality AVI video files?..

well,DVD with menus was a reference,i wasn't askin' for menus,just the video

you can use a dvd ripper like smart ripper or DVD Decrypter to extract the vobs on your computer then use autogk to encode them to avi
Sig too big.

Ever tried ratDVD? never used it myself but it seems to have what you want with compression and keeping the menus/structure etc.

Yeah, ratDVD is shit It produces really bad quality...
Best be is to encode to x264, but then the recommended container is not AVI but MKV.

I recommended x264, so he couldn't play them even in AVI. Me recommending MKV was based on that. Besides, cheap stand alone players are emerging as we speak, and they are pretty cool.

DV2, use AutoGK for DVD -> AVI and StaxRip for DVD -> MKV.

that's why u can get htpc for less than 200 euro which will be able to play any media no problems
cheapest console costs 200 and good dvd player which does not play hd rips will cost u at least 150
pc winz in practicality and ability all the way
riping dvd to avi is pointless anyway
