Right to cut a long story short..

I picked up a Macbook today off a friend who wanted rid of it since hes got a new Macbook pro. This Macbook is in fine working condition bar having one slight problem - it's twocced.

It was from some random company where his mate got it on the sly a couple of months ago..

Its got Leopard on it, has all the software etc and has Firefox as the default browser.

However, I can't use MSN or update anything. When I go to preferences and try a software update on system, it says it cannot connect to the internet. This is quite simply BS because im typing this on firefox now connected fine...

Also, Messenger mac latest version says it too cannot connect to the internet. Adium works fine and I can get onto my msn through that, but id rather be using MM.

Anyone know what the hell is wrong with it? Yes I know "thats what you get for buying boosted goods from mates" but this is a pirate forum anyways so surely someone with my black heart has their helping hat on today Laughing (I hope)

Also, no idea why but Safari doesnt do what it is supposed to either.. you type in an address into the bar and hit enter and nothing happens.. lol

Could be personal firewall such as Little Snitch, NetBarrier blocking these apps.

Or possibly proxy settings in Safari, and MSN defaulting to use the same proxy settings as that?

Could be, but there are no proxy settings in Safari, only system wide one, per network interface. The "Change Settings" proxies option in Safari just opens System Preferences -> Network, selects active interface with highest priority and switches to Proxies tab. The native Mac OS X apps use them, multi-platform ones usually not Sad For example Firefox.
