BSPlayer... BS = bullshit (read sig)
Get a proper player + ffdshow, and everything will be fine.

Didn't solve the problem... scene releases doesn't include .srt subs.

I use from over an year gomplayer (www.gomplayer.com) and i usually succeed in reading all the subs, even in idx/sub format.
Alternatively you could use convertxtodvd (www.Vso-Software.fr/ConvertXtoDVD) to insert all the subs you want in the divx ... this usually takes about 45 minutes on the pc i use for these things (p4 3.4) but then you obtain a movie watchable wherever you want, even on table divx readers.
Hope it helps.

IN, that "insert in the divx" means reencode, which in turn means loss of quality. I don't think those "divx" releases need more quality reduction.
Hercules18, lets start with the most basic way to watch with subtitles: WMP + ffdshow tryouts. Get the latest ffdshow tryouts and install it. Now open the Video decoder configuration and enable subtitles and make sure you enable the VobSub option. Now open the movie in WMP and see if subs are ok.

BS player does support almost all formats of subtitles but I don't know if that is valid for the free or pro version.

You don't have to change your mediaplayer but as Leo suggested, if you install ffdshow then you can add support for most subs.
I don't know how BS player works but sometimes you have to point your player to the sub files in case it does not find it automatically.

@ LeoNatan : uh well yes i meant reencode, i actually use that way to see some movies on my table dvdplayers when they don't recognize the subs, anyway that's my really last option when i absolutely want to watch a subs-problematic film on my sofa, even with another bit of loss of quality *shrugs*

while we're on the subject... I can't get subs to work for mkv files in media player classic. they work fine in VLC, but the subtitle selection is greyed out in MPC. Using ffdshow, also have vobsub installed. it reads fine from an external .srt file, it's just the subs in the mkv container it has a problem with...

You also have haali media splitter, right? You get a small icon whenever you play movies (if not install it and enable explorer integration). In that icon, right click -> select the subtitle language you want, and enable embedded subtitles in ffdshow (no need for vobsub).

Hebrew
What is this Black Book? Anything worth getting?
BTW, you can set the language to default selected subs in haali. Then just tick in ffdshow to have them or not.

1. Enable subs in ffdshow (and maybe copy my settings to be sure).
2. Enable vobsub in ffdshow (and maybe copy my settings to be sure).
3. This is the demo movie + subs I'll be working with. Notice they have the same name.
4. Notice that subs are enabled in ffdshow, ffdshow has selected the correct subs for my movie and it has selected a language (only English here).

Try this if the other subs still don't show.
