Ok, i've been going to this new school since August, and i got stuck with English as my mandatory second language. The thing is, i read/write/speak English fluently, and have no problems with grammar and punctuation. I basically know everything fluently. So i don't want to have English. I want to read some other language. However, i'm stuck with english for this first semester, since i have to "prove" that i speak it fluently, and once i do that they MIGHT let me choose another language to study instead, so i have until next semester (which starts in January) to decide if i do in fact want to switch languages. Now, i want to study French instead. But i have this dilemma. If i study french i won't know anything about it, and i''ll have to bust my ass to get good grades in it. English however, is another story.
Since i'm so good at English, i never have to do any of my English homework, or study for tests. I know it all inside and out, so even if i don't study for an English test i'll still ace it easily. I've never done a single English homework in my entire life, and i've had the highest grade possible in English every single year i've been in school. So my dilemma is that if i stick with english, it's an easy boost to my GPA, but if i switch to French, i'll have to work really hard and might not get as good grades in it, which will bring my GPA down. On the other hand, i already know English, and adding French to the 3 languages i already speak (Swedish, English and Serbian) will look really good on my future resumé. So what do i do? Chicken out and go the easy route which won't improve my future job finding prospects, or go the hard route and choose French so that my future resumé will look so much better?
I also recently discovered that the school offeres and optional course in classical Latin. Since i am a Roman Empire freak, and i love everything about the Roman Empire, this is something i'd really enjoy learning. Which brings me to another dilemma. If i choose this, in conjunction with French it will be even harder for me, but on the other hand, adding classical Latin plus French to my resumé will look even better than just French. Or maybe i should just stick with English and Latin? What do you guys think? Has anyone here studied either french or latin, and can tell me how hard it is? I'd really like to do both, but i have no idea how hard they are to learn, and i'm not entirely sure i could handle both at the same time, but then again attempting the impossible is the best way to improve So what do you guys think? Vote!

indeed, flemish atleast doesn't have that stupid holland accent (nou nou sjeg lol).
@Serben: don't choose Latin, whatever you do, its a dead language. You can't do anything with it. you have to start from scratch with every language. when you have studied latin for like 3 years the basics may be a little bit easier but latin is still pretty useless. choose French (i accidentally voted english cause i haven't read the post completely yet, sorry).
i studied french (only needed it when going to france ) and my brother did 3 years latin and it didn't help him a bit with other languages.

I too would go for French as Latin is really only going to help you if your going to study medicine or old history etc.
French is based on Latin as are many European languages .
I studied French at school for 5 years many many moons ago and it has a very easy grammar structure with simple rules unlike many other languages.
Once youve learnt French you also will have a good understanding of Spanish and Italian too as many words are the same (latin origin) or very simular.

Flemish?
Bwahaha.
Na, stick to English but if you REALLY WANT TO study another language I would try French or German or Dutch(then you dont have that stupid Flemish accent).

Well I did french for 3 years, german for 1 year, and spanish for 1 year. I'm pretty fluent in french, but my german and spanish are only ok, i.e. I could just about manage to have a conversation with a german or spaniard.
I would recommend taking french, it's not that hard. Some of my friends did latin at college, they hated it, and quit after the first year. Remember, hardly anyone knows latin, let alone speaks it fluently, so I don't think chicks would be that impressed.
Where did you learn your english serban?

You might wanna try spanish, it's the most spoken language in the world you know.
With spanish in your pocket you can move to some nice tropical countries in the future too, to the senõritas

well, i d stay with english and try to do latin. It will help you massively to understand where many things in european languages come from. It will help you in learning other languages later on because of that. You can still do french/spanish easily afterwards then...

First you must Learn Enlgish, then french.. and then a little bit of latin.
Followed by Dutch and then Flemish
Then you will understabd the rules (and how to keep on topic)

In my opinion, you should leanr well English first, it's an international language and can use it everywhere.
Learning as much as possible is the best.
So my choice is Stick "to" English but not "just"
