Turn Based RPG

Quote:
The latest game in the award-winning Avernum series. Travel into the strange underworld of Avernum, a land full of misfits, bandits, and barely civilized monsters. Hunt the villain who tried to kill your Empress, and keep him from assassinating you first. As you wander the gigantic world of Avernum, you will experience:

* An enormous world. Hundreds of quests, dozens of dungeons and enemy fortresses, and multitudes of characters.
* Epic storyline. Hunt the assassin Dorikas, while his agents try to trick and waylay you at every turn.
* Many unique encounters. Not just mindless hack and slash. Many unusual enemies that will require clever tactics to defeat.
* Rich game system with over 50 spells and battle disciplines, many character building options, and powerful secret skills to unlock.
* Unique game world. Not just the same old elves and hobbits.
* Experience with previous Avernum games is completely unnecessary to enjoy Avernum 5.

see thats the trouble with this day and age. too many people wont even try out a game if it hasnt got good graphics, now i dont know how this game is i havent played it.

That why RPG's are dying a slow death in my opinion to much time goes into the graphics rather than the story.

Yes the graphics are awful but the gameplay ISN'T , this is one reason why this company has made good profits in its games..

To hell with gameplay, you don't need that in games today. All you need is shader model 3.0 and upwards and per pixel refraction and reflection.

I applaud the indie developers who dare create something unique even if they don't have a million dollar budget. Haters should stay with their X360, because thats where their opinion is valued and "exploited".

Don't worry... I am sure with your baggy pants and wonderful attitude you will be a 40 year old pillar of society. Or if we are all lucky, maybe you'll get capped.

And for geeks... sounds like they live quite the life. It's easy to piss on something till you try and do it yourself.

The geneforge series are among my favorite rpg's second to Fallout 2 of course Smile

Games like Oblivion are very low on my list as they don't offer much, sure you can spend a lot of time running around looking at the sky, but theres not much variation in the gameplay or surprising plot developments.
I can also recommend trying out Eschalon Book 1

I loved exile. I was kind of sad when he moved away from that engine to the avernum one. It creates a serious nostalgia.

Didn't know that.. I only looked at the screenshots. But he can't expect to sell much these days with that kind of graphics, if the gameplay is really good he'd better get some friends to help him and work on the graphics more.
