A buddy at work brought a magazine into work and this is the first time I've subscribed to a magazine since the xbox first came out. I love reading about new technology etc and found those spark plugs I posted about from this mag.
http://www.popsci.com/
It's really interesting stuff and ideas. Especially in this months issue they talk about different ways of generating power.
They setup lil windmills like the I-Pass on the interstate (this idea was from a univeristy student) and supposed for each car that drives by at least 10MPH it's supposed to harvest enough power to power a house for 1 hour. I think I remembered that wrong but none the less cars doing 60+ each going under that windmill during traffic hours will get those things spinning quite fast and a good way to harvest power.
Another idea they had were using "wind mills" but under water using the underwater current to spin them.
Scientists have this new medical instrument that's almost like from the movie lost in space when they have the 3d display of the gals body when their trying to get her heart beating again...link here...

So I guess this would be a good thread to discuss these technology's and how they could benefit our future.

Otherwise known as water turbines. As in the kind they've been using in hydro dams for like 100 years. Not exactly revolutionary shit. Actually, sratch that. The've been using them for thousands of years, only before electricity was discovered, they were used to power mechanical devices like flour mills.

Interesting site Spy
I found a site that mails free science and research DVD's to your house.
http://www.hhmi.org/catalog/main?action=getCategoryListing&catId=2
They have DVD's on Evolution, Genitics, stem cells. Good resouce for those of you with older kids. They had a good PFD on the sences, good pictures.
I got on on the science of fat
"Scientists are unraveling the mechanisms that dictate how the brain and body regulate weight. In four presentations, Dr. Ronald M. Evans and Dr. Jeffrey M. Friedman discuss what the latest advances in genetic and molecular research tell us about why are some people are hefty while others are lean. Understanding the biological systems that control body weight and metabolism, as well as these systems’ environmental interactions, could lead scientists to treatments that curb obesity and treat its negative health consequences."
and one on evolution
"How has the amazing diversity of plants and animals evolved? What can fossils, butterflies, and stickleback fish tell us about the deep common ancestry of all living forms? In four presentations, Dr. Sean B. Carroll and Dr. David M. Kingsley explore how key developmental genes, natural selection, and time fuel the evolutionary process. They also discuss how Charles Darwin’s ideas about evolution ignited a revolution in biology that continues to this day."
They could be lame videos tho. I will see if I get them.
