|
 |
The WinXP-Pro-SP2-Corp. release by FTFiSO :
Microsoft.Windows.XP.Professional.Corporate.incl.SP2-FTFiSO
Is labeled :
X2PVOL_EN
However, on http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=342 where they list all the XP-SP2 volume labels, then the label is listed as :
VRMPVOL_EN
And all other non-corp XP-SP2 releases are all also named with VRM in the beginning of the name, so i don't understand why the FTFiSO release isn't named like that, as it says in the .nfo that the release is the official version of XP-SP2 corporate ?
On the tacktech.com site, then there is also listed the label X2PVOL_EN as a label that has been seen posted on the net, but that they don't really know if it's a legit/untouched volume label.
So, if anyone could shed some light on this for me, then i would really appreciate it.
The reason i'm asking is that i'm unsure about if i should download a VRMPVOL_EN.iso intead of the FTFiSO.bin/cue release that i'm now using, since i want to use the official and totally untouched WinXP-Pro-SP2-Corp version straight from MS.
Thank's in advance.

It doesn't really matter what label the disks have, but personally I haven't seen VRMPVOL_EN with original volume licensed XP disks, so...

Thank's for your reply Yes, i know those labels as they match the list on tacktech.com.
Anyway, i have just found out that the CD that contains XP SP2 alone and which can be ordered from MS is labeled VRMSP_EN, so it would then be most logical for the WinXP-Pro-SP2-Corp release to be called VRMPVOL_EN... Also, one other thing i have found out :
The PID has a code which states which version of the OS it is. I'm not talking about the channel ID i.e. the 640 for Win-XP-Pro-SP2-Corp releases, but the very first number listed in the PID(the PID can be seen by pressing WIN+Pause). Then the release from FTFiSO called X2PVOL_EN has the number :
55274-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx
Which stands for : XP Pro generic OEM
While i have read that someone with a VRMPVOL_EN release, stated that it had a :
76487 : XP Pro volume license (with '640' channel ID).
Also, that person stated that the X2PVOL_EN release and the VRMPVOL_EN version had different file size and that there specifically where a difference with the DOTNETFX folder(i don't know if he meant that this folder didn't existed on VRMPVOL_EN or that it did exist, but just had a different filesize than the one in X2PVOL_EN).
Then on another forum i saw someone stating that the DOTNETFX folder normally only where on ISOs from the MSDN network.
A wiki page about PID's is here : http://wiki.djlizard.net/Product_IDs
ANyway, to me it seems that the CD should be label VRMPVOL_EN, but unfortunetly it dosent ?

The label doesn't matter so I have no idea why you are putting so much time into it..

@kosmiq
I'm sorry about my previous reply to you and i apologize(i was in a bad mood at the time).
I know that the label dosen't matter, but things like these just interest me i.e. if there are two different corporate WinXP-Pro-SP2 versions, then i want to know about it, and to find out exactly what makes them apart.
@All
My current guess is that the FTFiSO corporate release has another name and bigger filesize because it's originating from the MSDN network and the other VRMPVOL_EN version is the normal i.e. non-MSDN corporate version, but it would still be nice to get a confirmation about this from someone who isn't just guessing(like me!)
And btw, if anyone knows about what the difference is between these two releases which was released with one day apart and none of them nuked, then i would be happy about it as i don't get it :
2004-08-06 : Windows.XP.Pro.SP2.Final.Integrated-PMM
2004-08-07 : Microsoft.Windows.XP.Professional.Corporate.incl.SP2-FTFiSO
The PMM release i believe is also corporate, since in the .nfo then there isn't mentioned anything about a crack and only that a product key needs to be entered to make it work and there is also only listed 'Serial' under 'Protection', but if that's correct, then why was FTFiSO's release not nuked for being a dupe ???

2004-08-06 : Windows.XP.Pro.SP2.Final.Integrated-PMM
standard XP Pro
2004-08-07 : Microsoft.Windows.XP.Professional.Corporate.incl.SP2-FTFiSO
corporate XP Pro, aka no activation.
There's your difference..

Thanks kosmiq, but i'm 99.9% sure that PMM's release is a corporate release and not a retail release, since a) it dosen't need an actiavtion crack and b) it's listed in the nfo to only be protected by a serial and c) since ETH0 released a retail version 2 days after PMM's release and allthough it got nuked, then it wasen't for being a dupe, but for having invalid keys...

In every Windows release there is a file named 'eula.txt' in the '.\I386' folder which on the last line states which exact version it is.
Microsoft.Windows.XP.Professional.Corporate.incl.SP2-FTFiSO :
EULAID:XPSP1_RM.1_PRO_RTL_EN
MSDN's en_winxp_pro_with_sp2_vl.iso :
EULAID:XPSP2_RM.0_PRO_RTL_EN
Also, on FTFiSO's release, then there is an IDENT file for SP1 additionally to the SP2 IDENT file(WIN51IP.SP1 and WIN51IP.SP2), while the MSDN release only has the SP2 IDENT file(WIN51IP.SP2) + the '.\SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY.CAB' is the SP1 version on FTFiSO's release and the SP2 version on the MSDN release and finally since the '.\DOTNETFX' folder contains '.NET v1.0' in FTFiSO's release and '.Net v1.1' on the MSDN release, then it really starts to look like that FTFiSO's release is an WinXP-Pro-with-SP1-VL release and then they themselves have slipstreamed SP2 onto that. Also, FTFiSO's release contains an extra file in the root called 'READMESP.HTM' and which describes how to install SP2 onto WinXP.
Do you guys really think that MS could have fucked up so much in there first release of Windows-XP-Pro-with-SP2-VL or do you think that it's a homemade slipstreamed version done from a SP1 source ?
I did actually read once that someone said that FTFiSO's release had been nuked, but however, this site states otherwise ? He said that sites like nforce.nl where always very slow upon updating such things and also where not always accurate, but that if checking in a real pre-channel, then we could clearly see that FTFiSO's release really where nuked. However, the guy which said that, said that it was nuked for having beta traces into some files and that it was e.g. one or more DirectX 9c files, so that sounds a little untrustworthy in my mind and also hasen't anything to do with what i'm talking about here, but nonetheless...
Anyway, i have stopped using the FTFiSO release anymore and gone over to using the MSDN release, since the FTFiSO release seems very suspecious to me... I don't personally want to use the ETH0 releases as i preffer to do what they are doing myself i.e. use nLite to add an update pack and then also to strip out unwanted stuff and add tweaks and patches

After thinking about it, then i personally do not believe that FTFiSO's release is an official MS release, as MS does not "forget" to update the eula.txt file on a new release + also all the other stuff i mentioned. Also the volume label of the release 'X2PVOL_EN' i believe was just a guess of what the label would actually have been, since the former official release(WinXP-Pro-with-SP1a-VL) had a volume label of 'X1APVOL_EN' and then the most logical guess would have been that the SP2 release would have just exchanged the '1A' to '2' in the volume label, but i don't think that MS have ever made an official release labeled 'X2PVOL_EN', since the MS CD with only the SP2 update on it, is called 'VRMSP_EN' and hence, then the iso's with SP2 integrated is also then logically labeled with 'VRMP' in the front.
If anyone have acces to a pre-channel where you can go back and search to see if FTFiSO's release has been nuked or not, then i would appreciate it... If it hasen't been nuked then i find it strange, because there got to have been others noticing and wondered about these strange things which i have documented here... PS: i know this site states that the release isn't nuked, but i have read someon else stating that this is an error of nforce.nl ? I don't know if it's true or not, and that's why i ask...

...Also notice that only FTFiSO's release features the two files 'SP1.cab' and 'SP1.cat'...
Anyway, if you are using one of ETH0's releases, which has RyanVM's post-sp2 update pack integrated, then i would recommend that you press 'Win+R' and type 'winver' and hit enter and then select the link for seeing the license agreement(eula.txt) and then scroll down to the very bottom, to see what version the release actually is based from. What i'm getting at, is that i'm now typing on a PC which has the following release installed :
Windows.XP.Professional.Corporate.SP2.Integrated.MULTI.IMAGE-ETH0.
And allthough it's a release without any extra updates besides SP2, then it seems pretty likely that ETH0 also has based there newer releases on this base release.
The last line in the eula.txt states :
EULAID:WX.4_PRO_RTL_EN
Which means : A homemade slipstream job of the SP2 network install onto a WinXP-Pro-VL release. Also i remember that i used to wonder about why the volume label of that release where 'WXPVOL_EN'...
Maybe some of you dosen't care about this, and it's also true that a homemade slipstreamed version will function just as good as an official MS made one, but still, when we have the choise of getting either the officially MS made WinXP with SP2 release, or a homemade slipstreamed release, then i would rather have the official MS made one, since there iso's are always cleaner and smaller without any redundant files or folders and with the correct volume label, eula and updated tools(.\support\tools\deploy.cab).
Now again the question arises about why nforce.nl lists this release as not being nuked ??? Surely i cannot again be the very first one to notice this!

The release is not nuked because it is working fine so no need to nuke it.
I have never seen anyone taking this as seriously as you do... If you want a cleaner iSO get an original release of Windows XP and slipstream the updates with nLite or something, makes it clean as hell.

A release gets nuked if it's validating scene rules and which is what i'm talking about here(and not about if it's woking right or not)... And i do use nLite to slipstream all updates onto a WinXP-Pro-SP2-VL release...

For anybody wondering, then FTFiSO's release weren't a dupe, because PMM's VL release from the day before, had this in it's SPNOTES.HTM file :
"The Beta Version of Service Pack 2 [...]"
Anyway, i have noticed that every time a slipstreamed version of WinXP-Pro-with-SP2-VL starts up, then a little before the Windows XP logo comes on the screen, then there's a little white status dialog going insanely fast across the bottom of the black screen, so it looks like there's just a white line blinking very shortly or something, but this thing isn't on the official VL release from MSDN...
Remember if you guys wants to verify if whatever you have downloaded is the real official thing or not, then just check against the following :
en_winxp_pro_with_sp2_vl.iso ISO-9660 CD Image
File Size
579 MB
SHA-1 Hash
3b1adf497f24919e4a4f3c14c3b65d55ea997278
A nice command line tool for generating SHA-1 checksums is fsum.exe : http://www.slavasoft.com/zip/fsum.zip
fsum.exe -sha1 en_winxp_pro_with_sp2_vl.iso >checksum.txt

The group 'eth0', are releasing the official MSDN release with RyanVM's update pack integrated every month. They mention in there nfo's that the source iso and VLK are from the group 'NoPe' and that they have gotten permisson from them to use it for there integrated releases. The latest release is named :
Microsoft.Windows.XP.Professional.Student.Edition.SP2.Integrated.December.2007-ETH0
The 'Student.Edition' tag in the release-name is pretty lame, since they are just the normal volume license MSDN iso's, and just comes from a university which has a volume license MSDN-AA(AA=Academic Alliance) subscription, and so the university are letting the students and faculty download the MSDN iso's and a VLK for free, or instead they are given ready burned CD-R's and a VLK. However, volume license versions(normally called 'corporate' versions, but that isn't the correct term, but 'VL' or 'Volume License' is, though) always comes from either corporations or organisations or schools, so specifically labelling a volume license version which originates from a school as a 'Student.Edition' is pretty lame IMHO, but oh well. Just thought that i would mention this, so that you guys would be aware that there are other options available than just the homemade slipstreamed releases, like eth0's 'Corporate.SP2.Integrated' releases.

...Forgot to say that there actually exists an edition called 'Academic Edition', but that is a retail product and isn't the release which eth0 are releasing. Also, some people say that the "student editions" dosen't needs validation and dosen't need any WGA checks, but that is just utter BS, since again, there is no such thing as a "student edition", and the releases that's called like that, are simply just normal volume license versions which just happens to originate from universities instead of corporations, and they are exactly the same as the ones from the corporations. So of course they don't requite activation, when they are infact volume license versions and of course they do need to pass WGA checks on WGA checking sites, but the reason people don't think so, is that they always pass those checks, since the VLK that's floating around the net for the "student editions" hasen't been black-listed by MS yet(i have 3 VLKs like that presently ). If you guys change the VLK on your corporate release into the one listed in eth0's "Student.Edition" nfo's, then your corporate release will also pass all WGA checks... Of course there are several ways to bypass those WGA checks, like e.g. the 'hosts' file redirection trick, or the cracked 'legitcheckcontrol.dll' file, but it is nicer to just use a non-blacklisted VLK though, instead Or more correctly, a MS registered VLK, since many VLKs that don't pass the WGA checks, isn't actually blacklisted, but they just aren't registered at MS and hence, won't work without a fix/crack, as MS now is not only checking for blacklisted VLKs, but also for if the non-blacklisted VLKs are registered with them or not...
...Just to set the record straight, as i have now read such ignorant crap now several times allready(i mean about there existing a special magical "student edition" out there!)...

Some background info :
The first "Student Edition" scene release of WinXP Pro. with SP2, was from PMM and again they have borrowed NoPe's XP source and VLK and the release was named :
Microsoft.Windows.XP.Pro.Student.Edition.SP2.Integrated.May.2007.READ.NFO-PMM
This release isn't on nforce, though... a little after this release(a month or so), then eth0 also began to make "Student Editions" available every month with RyanVM's update pack integrated, besides the other XP editions they release(VL, FPP and OEM etc.) and they where also using NoPe's XP source and VLK for it.
Here's a snip from PMM's nfo :
"This RLS was made using NOPE's Disc which doesnt require ANY activation crack (which is very nice) We simply Added Every single windows update except for the .net
frameworks, WMP11 & IE7 integrated, no crack required. This is by far the best XP Pro disc to date! When you go to windowsupdate it will tell you that you are up to date, if you want the .net frameworks, choose custom and select them. There is no difference between CORP PRO & Student PRO other than the activation not required. Thanks go out to NOPE for their rls, if it werent for them we wouldnt have this. "
As you can see, then the rumours about a special "Student Edition" of WinXP exising that didn't required activation or WGA checks, actually comes from the scene itself(first PMM and then followed by eth0 with their used naming scheme)

I haden't actually downloaded the "student edition" releases from eth0 or PMM, as i allready had the official MSDN ISO : 'en_winxp_pro_with_sp2_vl.iso', and which i then myself runs nLite on to integrate Xable's post-SP2 update pack and to make the CD unattended, tweaked and slimmed down into a 115MB ISO that fully works for everything that i use it for(+100MB of essential apps in tightly-packed 7z SFX silent switchless installers, which gets installed silently from RunOnceEx and directly from the CD), but i just assumed that it would be the official MSDN release which included SP2, but now after kosmiq kindly posted the name of the NoPe release which both eth0 and PMM's releases are based upon, then it again seems that PMM's and eth0's releases aren't official SP2 version, but is actually self-slipstreamed SP2 versions... Im thinking this, because i cannot see that NoPe has ever released a SP2 version of WinXP Pro. VL...
Sorry about posting wrong info then...

Sorry, just wanted to add two correction :
1. There is actually something called a 'Student Version' of Windows(i'm not talking about the well-known academic version, which also isn't VL), but still, it sure as he** isn't what NoPE or eth0 are releasing, as the 'Student Version' isn't volume license media, but just completely identical to the retail version, except that it features 2 activations. Students and faculty will under no circumstances be given VLKs or VL media in any of MS's academic VL programs.
2. NoPE has released a "Student Version" release with SP2 intgerated.

LOL
Yeah, i know what you mean, but if it was just the label, then it would be another story and wouldn't have taken so much of my time, but since the label here is one, in a series of clues, as to if the release is untouched, as in straight from MS or not, then i am indeed interested in it and hence, this thread
When we actually have the choise of getting either MS's official release of WinXP with SP2, or a release of SP0/SP1/SP1a with SP2 manually slipstreamed on-top of it, then call me crazy, but i actually would much preffer the official MS release If for nothing else, then it's cleaner integrated, as all redundant things is correctly removed and the extra tools and eula.txt also has been updated to the propper SP2 versions...
I also think that it's nice that there is monthly releases from eth0 with all the post-SP2 updates integrated, as even though i don't use them myself, then it's nice for those who don't wan't to spend their time doing this manually, but then those releases should be based upon the official WinXP with SP2 release from MS, and not from a homemade slipstreamed version, as it currently is in many releases...
Anyway, i can understand that many ppl thinks that i'm nuts in spending so much time on this, but since one of my biggest personal hobbies is building unattended/tweaked/updated Windows CDs for different purposses and machines, then to me it's perfectly natural to also be interessted in the different available Windows releases and their differences, since they are going to be the base of my own customized ones...
My current WinXP system comes from an unattended CD that's only 110MB big when not thinking about all the added programs, and it includes all post-SP2 high-priority updates and some 100 tweaks and patches and all the apps i always use. It uses 40MB ram and has 10 running processes at boot-up
It is completely customized to my own personal preferences and e.g. has Opera as the default browser(and only), Media Player Classic with ffdshow for video and foobar2000 for music etc. etc and with everything stripped which does not serve a purposse for me or where a better replacement is available.
My machine is only a P4 with 1700MHz and with only 256MB RAM, so the more saved RAM, the better
