Rather implement some flood control/trial period for new registered members.

Could make the site stop them from posting every second until they've been a member a certain time or reached a certain amount of posts.

That would require some kind of adjusting the forum, you should pm rinze if he could do that kind of thing... It doesn't sound bad, but I doubt that will change in the near future...

I am pretty sure that some phpBB mod or hack like this already exist. Now is it relevant or not to use something for the few spammers encountered, maybe not, it is up to the mods -having to lose their time clearing the spammers' shit- to ponder this.

Actually, it has happened. It didn't last super long but registration was closed for a bit a few years back.

They make money from advertising so they need as much traffic as they can get. It's unlikely they'll close registration again, and if they do it'll only be for a short period.

Like it was said the first time they locked the registration, new members should be allowed only to post in the newbie forum for a certain ammount of post till they are allowed to post in the other section of the forum. That way it will prevent to have idiots and massive spammer everywhere

But then they'll just spam the newbie section until allowed to spam in the entire forum. I say have a member vouch for members and be responsible for their spamming. Wasn't that how things were in the distant past?

That could be good, but I don't see that much threads in that vouching area...
