Ok, so I recently went from a 17 inch lcd to a 22 inch widescreen badass lcd

3000:1 contrast ratio
2ms response time

flippin amazing! ( to me anyways )

And I've found myself re-installing some games ( more recent titles mainly ) and played them in widescreen.

Crysis
Hellgate London
Sexy Beach 3 ; )
Gears of War
Rainbow Six Vegas

The next game I'm thinking is Doom 3. But I'm not sure that even a visual update will make that linear gameplay any better...........

Please post any recommendations to games that support widescreen mode ( and are good ), mods that enable widescreen on older games, and games you've seen signifigant improvements in based off of resolution.

HL2 just popped in my head as well..........

Thanks!

Bioshock added proper widescreen in the 1.1 update and it's a good game albeit there's not much left after you've played it trough once.

Stalker also added proper widescreen in one of the patches (The 3rd or 4th one if I remember correctly.) and using some mods it can be rather intense.

Most games actually support 16x9 and 16x10 (Even older titles like the first Deus Ex support these formats.) resolutions but there's a few differences in implementation related to either horizontal or vertical scaling.

EDIT: Or just check the link that Parallax_ added.

The link Parallax provided is a good source if u're lookin for some patch or other solution to make a game work in widescreen. Usually its either patching, chainging .cfg or changing game registry entries.

If you are thinking HL2 (which does WS perfect btw), Definitely try this mod out:

http://www.smod-tactical.com/

Adds all the visual effects found in modern shooters like COD4, plus actual tactics and junk. Simply amazing to play HL2 with the mod enabled.

Also, RTS games are a blast to play in WS. I recommend UAW with the camera zoom out mod.

Besides this also some decent RPGs are great, Gothic3 with the community patch and some ini-tweaking. And another props goes to Stalker with the latest patch(will be even better with the freeplay mod hopefully coming in the next few monthes).

+1. The second time i played through HL2 i used smod and it was a much more enjoyable experience. There's a few different versions though, cant remember which i used. loved the bullet time + all the added gore Very Happy Is there some way to use smod with the latest expansionpack, any1 know?

the worst part with getting a bigger screen is that you want an even bigger in no-time because you get used to it very fast... 100" isnt very impressive for me anymore (play on a 720p widescreen projector), but sure it beats playing on my 22" Rolling Eyes

That is a silly question, almost every game supports widescreen even the old c&c from the first decade, so play any games that you usually like to play there is no such thing as widescreen games.

It's not silly at all, most of older games don't support WS at all or have very limited WS support. Even some new games still don't have proper WS support. (I'm sick and tired of repeating this but just having WS resolution and cutting top and bottom of view to fill the screen is not WS support).

Even if it doesn't support ws yes, my monitor allows me to cut or stretch and I can play with no problems in 4:3 the enjoyment level is the same to me you can hardly tell a difference between ws and normal mode, ws is more natural to the eyes and most games support ws so yes, it is a silly question.

There's a big difference between cut/stretch edges and real widescreen.. in many new games (Bioshock and Stalker) you even had LESS view in WS than in 4:3 which is not acceptable.. they've fixed it since their communites complained a lot though.. there are still quite a few games that doesnt support true WS, but its definitely getting better...

It's not a silly question since many games still doesnt have WS support..

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com is a good place for user fixes for games like KOTOR1&2 etc...

Well no shit, of course you can run 4:3 games on WS monitor just fine, but that's not what this thread is about.

Yea, the 226BW/CW (S panel) is a very nice monitor. I've had mine for a while now. Just moved up to a Samsung TN-4061, I usually play the 4:3 games on that because it scales nicely.

But a more "recent" game that would benefit greatly from WS support , Battlefield 2 & 2142 , don't.Go figure

Many many people complained to EA that they wanted WS support for BF2.Their answer ? "Our data shows that widescreen monitors aren't popular enough so we're not going to add widescreen support in any futur patch"

What a fucking bunch of retards.I don't think you guys have any idea how much i hate EA.Sorry for the rant but i had to get that out of my chest.

No this thread is about WS games and they as such done exist. Rolling Eyes Most games have WS support. and making topic and asking what are the best WS games is retarded in so many ways its unreal. WS isnt a genre its nothing. Its display mode. If you cant see that then good luck in life. Its same as asking Uhhhhh what Antialliasing games are best. Rolling Eyes

Huh? A guy just wanted some titles for games that support WS and he gets all this bullshit. Yeah this thread title sounds dumb, but maybe English isn't his first language so quit being so anal about it *sigh*

I know all about that and i actually use a similar prog for BF2.

Still , the fact is that EA are still lazy retards for refusing ti implement it natively. If anything it should have been there when the game was launched in 2005.

No, I play crysis at 1024x768 (I know lol but high settings ftw) and it actually stretches well accross the screen, some games like condemned show black bars as if its not WS for some reason (Noticed this on a 4:3 screen too), but others stretch and look fine Smile

In your video card control panel you can setup so you can have it either stretched across the screen or at correct aspect ratio with black bars on the sides, I prefer the latter because I can't stand wrong aspect ratios.
