You could always use an ftp transfer. Your transfer will go via the shortest route. So it's safe to say that it will stay on the same network as your ISP.
You could have one of you setup FileZilla Server and the other use FileZilla client which are both Open Source Free pieces of software. Pretty easy to setup and your best bet at a direct connection.
Oh an because the file is so large, FileZilla allows file resuming if there is a break in your connection for any reason.

Well, if you've got Telenet or ADSL it'll take a long while to send, and will take a reasonable chunk of your download limit. Maybe you should buy a 1gb memory stick, they're really cheap nowadays.

WASTE wont make things go any faster, but its a good program, it will protect you from your ISP and it's pretty easy to get setup! Well worth looking into for transferring files between small groups of people!
