if your console not banned from xlive u can load xbox 1 disk in your box while connected to live and a u will be promoted to dLd and install update automatically or u can dLd and burn and install
and no it does absolutely nothing to your fw, only thing is 360 bc is very poor, expect some glitches, haven't played shenmue 2 tho

and can i play backups or do they need to be original xbox1 games?
backups must be remade to have security sector, u can do that yourself using XDVDMulleter but i suggest to get already prepatched ones so u wan't have any troubles
and don't forget that u need stealth patches as well coz if u got iextreme fw they won't boot, so make sure game is iextreme compatable before burning
