I have this problem with online games sometimes where I get following message in my event viewer,
Quote: | TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts. |
so I asked a question on some forum, about how I could fix this for 64bit systems, cuz the standard patchtool from levellord don't work for 64bit. So then this guy steps up and says the following,
Quote: | Unfortunately, modiying copyrighted to overcome a mfgr limitation, is not your right. |
WTF is he smoking?? Since when can microsoft say what I can and cannot do with files on an OS that I legally purchased, if I wanna hexedit files then I sure as hell will hexedit files.
Question I just have is, is this guy talking out of his ass, or is there actually some truth to his words?

Legally, you can modify whatever you like, as long as you don't resell or release any proprietary information. Of course, any modification could possibly conflict or be overwritten with a future m$ update which would theoretically void your support from them (if they ever actually provided anything useful).
Aside from that, have you seen any lawsuits from anybody who used the lvllord fix for XP?
No, because it's impossible. If it was I'm sure the bloodsucking lawyers at m$ would already be trying to sue the entire world.
Long story short, the person who wrote the original message is clueless, and if I was in your position, I would be looking for a solution also.
