In dualview is there anyway for me to establish two start menu's, i have enabled the "extend taskbar over monitor's" option, an was just wondering, if it is in anyway possible, would it require two graphic's card's, i have heard of a program called VMware's but not sure of which version to get, or how to use it...

Any insight would be fantastic..

I dont know anything about DualView, but i personally use UltraMon to get my taskbar extended over both monitors. Works fine Smile

Also, you can use it for other things, like setting individual wallpapers for each monitor.

yeah i use to use ultramon and it kicks, but no it wont give you 2 start menus and i dont know what program would...

but for that matter, i cant see any actual practical use for TWO start menus...

i did love the ability that ultramon gives you for 2 task bars though, that was awesome and all you need in my opinion.

Agreed i have Lltramon running, got both taskbars, 17 inch monitor flat panel plus 42 inch LG 1080p, and crysis look's badass on the 42...

The reason for the two start menu's so i wouldnt have to go from one screen to another accessing it, so no matter which screen i'm on, i could use the start menu..

Been screwing around with the nvidia control panel / nview and a little bit of ultramon ... a couple questions about using multiple displays...

1) is there any way to run each display in a different resolution/aspect ratio? I guess I really just want to 'clone' my original desktop onto my LCD (1280x1024 4:3) and LCD TV (1280x720 16:9). I guess I should really just have 2 single display profiles since they are nowhere near each other and I can't use both at the same time... still I can imagine the scenario where I might want to let a movie play to the TV while still being able to sit at my desk and use the computer.

2) is there any way to fine tune the actual dimensions of the display output? Outputting at the native resolution to my tv is slightly larger than the actual tv, so I can't see everything. I remember I could do this when I tried a couple years back with an ati card + shit ass tv, but now I can't seem to find anything.

sorry, one correction to the post. scratch the part about cloning. when I only want to use one display at a time i will just use separate profiles. so for a third profile what I want to do is extend the desktop, but at different resolutions/AR.

ultramon was giving me an error where it only said one display was hooked up but I could see both were on :/

Seems like this is a well known problem with HDTV overscan when output from a computer.

there is a 'just scan' mode on the tv that basically makes it fit perfectly, but it doesn't look as crisp as the 16:9 display mode.

You have your tv connected through HDMI or DVI nouse? I have mine connected through DVI with a resolution of 1280x768. That's the native resolution of it, it's an older model, bought it in 2004. It's handling like another computer screen.

connected through dvi (vid card) --> HDMI (tv), native resolution is 1280x720. the nvidia control panel says in order to extend the desktop both displays need to be at the same resolution, which is the problem. I will play around with ultramon to see if I can set them independently.

I found an article about a fixing the overscan problem ...
http://www.anandtech.com/multimedia/showdoc.aspx?i=2181&p=5

and from what I found many many people deal with this issue.

so really I have 2 choices = output at a custom resolution (apparently nvidia control panel has some sort of overscan correction in the control panel), or let the TV itself squish the picture slightly. guess the easy way is to just use the 'just scan' setting on the TV since they designed it for this issue....

That's strange, i have my desktop extended to my tv without any problems, but mine is connected through DVI on both ends. My computer monitor uses it's native resolution of 1680x1050 and the tv the 1280x768. I have an ATI 2400Pro though, never had any issues with the second screen.

maybe the overscan % on your TV is fairly small? All HDTVs have some degree of overscan (I hear samsung is actually fairly high) ... but like I said, I remember actually adjusting the output size (fine tuning with arrows) so that it fit perfectly on the TV (was some old POS CRT)

I think my nvidia control panel is messed up :/ I should probably re-install. Anyone tried out PowerStrip? It is supposed to be good apparently, but so many manual settings I might fuck some shit up :/
