ok probably got this post in the wrong board, so what the heck...

recently when I run eMule, my 2 meg cable connection grinds to a halt.

Never had this problem untill about 3 months ago. I don't use it much, but when I do, it's like extracting teeth.

All the eMule settings are set to default install, and yeah guess what I'm with Virgin broadband.

Anyone shed any light on this. As soon as I quit the application, I get full speed again.

It's probably emule making so many connections it fucks up your crappy router. Just my guess.

Either many connections or you're uploading too fast and it's choking your connection. Try getting a leecher emule mod and cancel upload altogether Very Happy (don't flame, I have no respect for emule network)

reducing the number of connections seems to work. I'll try the mod as well.

I only tend to use it for DS and the odd obscure ebook.

sounds like a shit router/modem to me aswell
when i had a zyxel, i had to reboot it twice a day to allow any high speed usage
be it p2p, gaming or having a web server

or it's possible the isp is shit, and is throttling your connection based on traffic type
try force protocol obfuscation
but i doubt it'll help

trying everthing above has freed up web browsing a bit, although I now get explorer hanging for ages, and the page suddenly appearing complete.

I'm wondering if some new windows update is slowing down the browser... (I can hear the HD grinding every time it's about to load a new page, maybe Microsoft are pushing me to buy Vista Wink

eMule is still dead slow and theres's loads of sources for each file. I'm thinking it's the ISP. I never used to have this problem.

Use Shareaza instead of eMule i've got better results with it... And maybe PeerGuardian2 for blocking unuseful connections like fake servers etc.

NO TORRENT HERE, GOT IT... Let me write it down here

wow, everthings back up to full speed.

eMule average around 30-100 kbs, utorrent 300k simultaneous.

I reckon Virgin MEdia have been fiddling with the network.

Thanks for all the advice Smile
