Tried for the second time to get into Baldurs Gate 2 yesterday but I just couldnt get myself interested. The game just asks to much of the player, to much micromanagement for my taste.
This got me thinking about other games I missed back when they were released and that I regret not playing for what ever reason.

What games have you guys regreted not playing and just cant get into today cause they feel old and dated?

My list:

BG1 + BG 2
Planescape Torment
Outcast

System shock 1 and Beneath a Steel Sky. These were both games I saw in shops years and years ago but only within the last few yrs played them, tho not as much as I would have when the visuals were not quite as ancient. Both of them never really got the attention they deserved, which was a shame. Really the only thing back then to clue you in to what you could expect was the box artwork and quick little blurb on the back, if it wasnt available shareware anyways. Makes you really appreciate the internet coming along to show us all the great niche classic games out there.

Also wish I had played all the lucasarts games when they first came out. Still play a few today on my DS tho, even completed a couple, despite the antiquated visuals and so on.

Just doesent feel the same as modern rpg that does alot of the boring stuff for you, but also the extremely boring gfx kinda put me of.

Grim Fandango. Always fucked up for me in XP after a few minutes of playing. Guess it's no point to even try it under Vista.

Though I finally picked up Monkey Island 4 and started to play a few weeks ago after waiting 7 years.

I have never really felt this, except for games where multiplayer is dead
That's probably because I'm not playing old games anymore (ie +10 years) as I'm too lazy to install win98 on the other machine Razz (games don't run fine on VMware, and I've got all kind of probs with dosbox...)

I wish I had played Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall.
A friend of mine who played it a long long time ago keeps telling me about how awesome it was when we talk about oblivion or morrowind.
I tried it out a little a while ago but I just can't take it anymore. I wish I had played it when it came out, it would have been awesome.

The world is so huge... you litteraly have hundreds of towns and cities, and thousands of dungeons.

I also wish I would have played Privateer as I'm really into free roaming space sims like that, but when it came out I had no idea it even existed and I probably wasnt very interested in PC gaming back then.

What boring stuff are you talking about? All D&D games use same "boring" Rolling Eyes micromanagement. You should really learn about stuff you are talking about before you post. Are you referring to Titan quest and similar games as "modern" rpgs?

There's actually a fix for XP compatibility out there somewhere, you should try finding it, def worth the effort!

Btw, to all of you that haven't played Monkey Island 3. I only played it for the first time ever, this year and I had great fun. It's still very playable and enjoyable even today for first time players.

Not a single person said FF7?

If I hadnt played that back in the day I really dont think I would appreciate it now. Alot of people I know who didn't, look at and say "that is a piece of shit" purely based on the graphics.

when i got my psp i played ff7 on it... i really dont understand the fuss, it wasnt a very stand-out game for me... the graphics didnt bother me, as i said i was playing it on the psp, so in context it looked decent... but for me to like a game i need to like the story, the action, and the characters...

the story wasnt anything amazing, the action was ok, and the characters were some of the worst i think ive ever come across in any game... nothing makes me laugh my ass off harder than whenever i see someone crying or making a big fuss out of that chick getting pig-stuck in the game, because she was such an irritating annoying bitch i THANKED that girly man for killing her.

i think the reason for the games popularity comes purely from there being nothing else worth playing on the playstation at the time, and things just grew from there...

now listen... im not saying ff7 sucked... IM NOT SAYING FF7 SUCKED (saying that twice so it gets through the fanboys skulls), im just saying its not that great... id give the game like a 7 out of 10, or maybe an 8 if i was grading it in the year when it came out.
