Greak: Memories of Azur is a side scrolling single-player game with hand-drawn animations. You will take the role of three siblings: Greak, Adara and Raydel to guide them through the lands of Azur. Alternate control between them and use their unique abilities to escape from the Urlag invasion.
Greak’s gameplay has some glaring ups and downs which balance themselves into something that doesn’t really stand out. This is rather disappointing as the demo left me with the impression that the game could evolve into something special. But the lack of storytelling depth and the simplistic approach of certain mechanics have strayed away from its potential. This is probably the result of adapting the complex requirements of having multiple characters which has led to a less-than-ideal approach.
Pros:
+ Adorable artwork
+ Interesting puzzles involving multiple characters
+ Childlike sense of adventure
+ Audio
Cons:
– The story is unable to fully project the emotions it is trying to
– Simplistic combat
– The forced micromanagement is unnecessary
– No map
– The mouse doesn’t work in some menus
