hes looking at that one, but changing the cpu to a duo 3 ghz
that setup would have sli 8600 gt cards... am i right to tell him that chosing the option of a single 8800gts would be a much wiser option? (i was previously an ati'guy and my 8800gtx is my first nvidia experience in like 4 years...)
does everything else look decent on this? he's obviously not looking for a super expensive pc, but would this shit be good value for money, and are the parts decent enough? or should he go elsewhere. anything else you can see here that warrants mention? thanx.

Of all people I would expect you to know the importance of NEVER buying pre-builts. And their only offering hitachi? Hell no. The X-FI is prob one of the biggest waste of sound cards ever. Only 2 games take advantage of their onboard memory not too mention theres horrible support for the card, ESPECIALLY in vista. You could easily shave off quite a few bucks if they allowed you to NOT pick an OS.
You could build him one for a couple hundred cheaper.

Tell him it's just as easy as legos
I'd like to know why their selling that 8800GTS so cheap in that bundle. It's like 200 less than what it retails here.

...because every other component is overpriced?
but seriously, tell me what you think of whats being offered, and whether a single 8800gts is better than dual 8600 and if its all a good deal and would make a good pc (for a prebuilt )

Dual 8600's is a waste of power, heat, space, and performance. If i saw two in a rig I'd laugh my ass off.

it's alright I guess. There isn't any good prebuilt systems anymore, and the fact there very limited on the brands you can choose makes me dislike them. I mean cmon, thee best HD's around are western digital's and Seagate has come a LONG way from when they used to suck, why they wouldn't offer those to the consumers shows lack of interest in what people want.
I wouldn't trust their PSU with my life. The X-FI is a pile of junk. Shitty HD selection, and the fact you HAVE to buy an OS. I'd go somewhere else.

There must be a shop somewhere that simply allows you to buy hardware + a hardware assembly service.
would be a better idea than sticking to such limited options offered by that one.

Why where you banned? And no 2 8600 are crap . Get 8800 gt. |
im not entirely sure... the banned message said that i asked someone to upload gears of war, but i dont remember making the request so it was either a joke, or the mod misunderstood something... all the messages were deleted, so i cant double check... *shrugs*
re: the system... i mean hes not exactly a hardcore gamer or pc nut or anything... he just wants it for games, movies and internet, really... and if its not the fastest pc or can play crysis on anything other than medium settings, he really wont mind... his standards arent that high.. i mean hes a console gamer after all...i just want to know if the system is acceptable for what hes paying.. can anyone else recommend any good online builders to get a system from? or should I just tell him its fine, just to get the 8800 instead of the 8600 sli

the problem isn't the price, but limited choices of hardware components.
8800 GT in a new limited budget gaming pc is a nobrainer, but it's not available there.
Other people here also said the the sound card sucks.
The motherboard is also not exactly a great idea as you'll want one with the P35 chipset to have proper support for the new 45nm CPUs from intel if he ever wants to upgrade.

ok how about this... personally i swear by dell because they have awesome tech support, and ive had 2 dells, 1 7 years ago, and 1 about 5-6 years... both are still flawlessly functioning, so i want to tell him to get a dell... how does this sound:
My Components
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6750 (4MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1333 FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition with re-installation CD
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 DIMMs
250GB - Seagate 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 8MB Cache
Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
$1,549 usd
id much rather he got that to be honest, its got everything he'd need and i think thats a good price for that shit.. id buy it if i wanted a budget pc that could play shit.. i mean fuck... that pc would play crysis a mix of medium/high settings...

Get Dell then if you dont have other options. I would still build my own PC from shop (not the one you linked in the first post). Cant you go in some big PC shop and build PC there? It would be much easier. Or get parts that you need and then pay someone to put it together? You will have much bigger warranty on parts then on prebuilt.

Dell may have "good tech support" but one thing I've learned is they can't build a comptuer worth a shit, not too mention the bloat their computers with shit, overcrowd the inside of the case, that and they seem to make their own kind of bios which is a huge pain in the ass.
I can't tell you how many "awesome" dells people have bought and how many of those I had to fix.
But honestly if he's going to buy a gamign rig from dell, tell him to get their XPS systems.

Dell is ass, why pay a premium for good tech support? $500 for a phone call or e-mail? And Spyke's right about the cons of their PC's.

tigredirect doesnt seem to offer gaming pcs that let you pick your own parts, unless im missing something... its either standard non customisable gaming rigs, or customisable business rigs that dont really offer good shit for gaming? or am i not seeing something...
