i have a problem with a new system i built, so i bring it to the wonderful people of NFOrce Wink ...first here's my system:

Motherboard: Asus M2N-E SLI
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz
Ram: A-DATA DDR2 PC6400 (2GB)
GFX: XFX GeForce 8800GTS XT 320MB
PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 600w
Case: Antec Performance One P180

and here's the problem:

i've been getting some game crashes (not system crashes, although sometimes i need to power off to get out of the game), the problem is the same every time on different games. i play for about 10-20 minutes then the sound gets stuck and starts to repeat itself quickly (like a car engine :/ )and continues like that for some time. the game will also CTD after a while also, but i can continue using windows. i downloaded the monitor app for my board and it shows my board in red at 33°c idle, 38°c on a load. if you look at the pic of my board (see link) there is no fan on the heatsink, and that is the area that gets hot. i also notice too while browsing and playing some browser games, sometimes there are some short pauses when a sound is played. now, what i want to know is that the sound controler with the heatsink on? will putting in a pci sound card eliminate the heat there and solve problem? should i buy a chipset fan? or is there some other thing that could be causing this problem? hope i wrote everything down so you are able to understand, thanks for any help/advice.

sounds more like the video. Mine does that occasionally only cause I have mine over clocked but will unlock itself. Check the heat on it and make sure the heatsink is on there properly and is turning on. You might even take it off to apply some artic silver.

if it crashes back to desktop, it could also be not enough voltage on the cpu. Some psus can cause less voltage than you have set and the Vcore (if it isnt for the video-card) does look a bit weak. I guess even with newer cpus they should rather be around the 1.45 mark right?

And since the case-temps are too high, i d suggest a good case-fan at the back(less noise than an active norhtbridge and cools more than the one component). You could also go for a bigger passive northbridge cooler. Zalman does amazing ones.

edit: core-voltage for that cpu should be around 1.35 to 1.4, so i guess you re in the green there.

Ick, that motherboard looks like it has a crappy cooling system on it.

= Never hot memory or chipset or anything else on the MB. Not only does it do a damn good job on cooling the CPU but being a 120mm fan you wouldn't believe the amount of air it shoots between those fins hitting your chipset and memory.

i figured that i would apply some artic silver to my chipset heatsink, only to find upon removing it that the complete idiot that attached the heat sink 'forgot' to remove the sticky tape covering the thermal pad Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Confused hopefully now that solves my problems.
