Quote:
Intel Corp. will buy Havok Inc., a provider of software and services used by videogame creators and movie special-effects teams, the company said Friday.

Havok will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel but keep operating its business as usual, according to an Intel press release. It will add to Intel's visual computing and graphics efforts, while continuing to develop products for all computing platforms, the company said. The acquisition will help Havok grow into new market segments, Havok CEO David O'Meara said in a prepared statement. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Quote:
The financial terms of Intel's buyout of Havok were not initially disclosed. However, Reuters reports that Irish venture capital firm TVC Holdings estimated the deal's value at around $110 million. On Monday, TVC agreed to sell its 27 percent stake in Havok for about $21 million.

ITavisen, the most shitty Norwegian newspaper ever. All they do is copy OLD english news, translate them (poorly, I might add), and post them on their so-called "news"-site. Where's the journalism, I ask?

Intel allready planned to buy them in 2003 when they wanted to bring processors with 3 cores that one core would only calculate physics , guess now they will make them 4core prosessors with the fifth core that does physics . Looks like the PC more and more will be made from one parts that will have all things build in , New Geforce will have a sound card build in and Intel a physics processor .

Last I knew havok was supposed to be designed so instead of needing a dedicated card it'd off load any physics to any extra GPU such as SLI, don't think it ever happened. Was supposed to happen with the 8 series.

The only problem is, devs need to license and incorporate a very specific Havok API in order to do this, Havok FX.
