Hi,
Finally purchased components for new system after 4 years of running P4 3.4 Intel, with a ati 9800Pro card. Not being able to play Bioshock drove me over the edge.

So, I went with mwave.com. Found they were cheapest suprisingly compared to zip and newegg. They do charge shipping, but automatically gave me a $10 coupon to use which basically covered shipping. No tax. I used to order from them about 5-10 years ago then stopped. Back again.

Anyways, ended up paying extra $9.99 for them to assemble/test mobo+cpu combo. Figured since I was buying both at same place- let them do it. I was going to purchase the artic cooler 7 from newegg for $20 - but decided not to. Read its a very very tight fit with Northbridge sink on Abit mobo. I prob wont OC it, and reports says stock is OK. Also read its a pain to install. So, $9.99 - im guaranteed a working mobo/cpu in mail.

My budget - basically $0. I really dont have extra $ to spend. So, I was trying to keep this at minimal, yet functionally to play games for next 3-4 years.

Let know what you think:

Video - EVGA 512-P2-N757-TR GF8600GT 512MB PCI-E w/ TV & DVI $149
CPU - INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6550 2.33 GHZ $169
Mobo - ABIT IP35-E $69 (after $20 rebate)
HD - WD 500GB Serial 3.0 WD5000AAKS $103.90
Monitor - V7 22 WIDE LCD MONITOR $169 from staples.com after coupons
Memory - CRUCIAL 2GB DDR2 5330 $40 (after rebate)

I already had purchased these components for free after rebates:
PS - Ultra V Series 500 W
Case - Ultra Wizard Black Mid Tower Case ULT31580

I like the setup but the 8600GT sucks. the 7900GS KO cards got more power(and overclock NICELY) in them and cost the same if not a few bucks more. Only thing good about the 8600GT is it has DX10 on it. But for that power house you woulda been better off with the 8800 320MB a bit more expensive but would have lasted you a LOT longer than that 8600 will.

but if your happy with it then you got yourself a great system. that video card is the only thing that will drag your system behind.

Yeah, this card will be perfect for a media center, the 512mb of ram being a bit useless, but for gaming it* is at the level of a 7600 GT or X1650 XT, thus to say the least it will be limited for nowadays and upcoming games, on tom's hardware charts it* has half the power of a 8800GTS 320mb (~$280).

*the 256mb version.

8800 320MB is a $300 card. Thats 2x as much as what I paid for the 8600gt. No way can I justify that upgrade right now. The price jump to a 8800 card is double that of 8600. 8600 as u said is dx10 compatible, based on same board as 8800. With some OC of the card, it will run current and future just fine. the 512mb is a big difference than 256/320mb.. its ddr3 too..

$300 vid card- no way for me..cant afford it..

trying to keep every part under $200..

appreciate your comments and glad I will be gaming with the rest of you!!!
