I have been using giganews for over a year now, and up until recently I have been getting good speed with downloads. And by good, I mean somewhere in the 14-15 Mbps range. As of last week for some reason, I'm lucky if I get 2 Mbps. Giganews says that nothing has changed on their end. My ISP claims that there is nothing wrong with my cable modem or or my connection. By the way, for anyone familiar with giganews, they have a US news server, and a European news server. The US server was always slow, but I happened to stumble upon the faster speed with the European server and have been using that with no problems until last week.

So I guess I will do some shopping around for a faster news service, if there is such a thing.

Can somone help me out a little here?

Thanks...

I max out my connection on newshosting.com, but that is only about 5mbps. FYI, newshosting is the only usenet service I would recommend besides giganews.

usenetserver.com. You can manually select routes if it's slow, which is quite useful.

1) Use the search feature, this topic pops up every week.

2) You have two choices and two choices only Razz Giganews or Usenetserver. Their the two best around. Those of us here who don't use giganews use usenetserver. Those who use neither...well..they're a minority.

I use Easynews because I just love the 'web-interface'. And you can grab your stuff using download managers (multi-section dloads) like GetRight, Flashget etc.
Never had full 10mbit speed when using Newsleecher + giganews/usenext/name it. But Easynews with web download delivers it most of the time. 7-10 mbit.

seriously, in this day and age who doesn't have unlimited downloads? easy news wants $10 a month for 20 gb, while you can find $15 unlimited downloads at a number of places ...

I had easynews a few years ago. It was ok, but didn't have the retention that giganews has. As far as I'm concerned, giganews has been the best by far up until last week. Their headers are complete, and the retention is the best. But my problem as of last week has been the speed. It's simply not what I expect. So I was looking for something comparable.

Thanks for all the good suggestions...

give usenet server a run. High retention, their speeds are amazing, unlimited download, free SSL. Also they could give two shits less if you share your account, I had 3 people downloading at their max speed at the same time. I cap at like 315, someone else capped at 80 and my buddy was over 1 meg.

on the sharing side of things, newshosting gives me 8 connections, I share with someone 4/4, and we can both max out. I get a warning email if we try to use more than 8 between us ...

Your limited to 10 to yourself, meaning your newserver lets you connect 10 times and download the files in parts kinda like a torrent if that makes sense. But I've had multiple people download at the same time as me through out a whole month. friend downloaded randomly when I was and wasn't, they didn't care.
