Been going through my old game collection to play the Lucasarts adventures on SCUMMVM ( having a blast ) and i found my old copy of strike commander / Top gun , i like realism but those sims didnt require a 2 pound handbook to read first like the Falcon series make you and no need to memorize 4875 button combinations . Basicly take off and have fun , with a good story to go along with it .

Been googling a bit and havent been able to find anything like that that came out recently or might come out soon , does anyone have some good suggestions or are the flight sim days over ?

Sadly combat flight sims are very rare these days. And especially the story-driven sort. The only kind that developers get enough funds to produce are high-realism games since those games have quite a hardcore fanbase.

So, sad to disappoint but if you're looking for good sims then Lock On: Modern Air Combat is very good now with patches and community-mods. However that is another one of those games where you need to read a couple of hundred pages to fly properly.

If you just want some realistic fun then go for IL-2 1946. Sure it's WW2 so no jet-age dogfights but at least you get to jump straight into the fray Smile

I love flying in Battlegrounds Europe.
Great plane physics and nice damage effects.

I hate you.

You kidding? I just went to the Battlegrounds Europe website and watched the trailer for the game. It looks like a game I would have been playing on my old commodore 64, about a 150 years ago.
I mean sure its a big game world, but still.....I mean so is a game like OFP and Armed Assault and they look 10 times better than Battlegrounds Europe.
