Since my iPad 4 is getting old and its screen has a crack as well, im thinking about buying a new tablet.
Pros and Cons iOS/Air 2:
+ super fluid
+ Easy to manage (nothing to manage)
+ Better/more apps and games (!)
+ Apps/Games are first released for iOS if they even come to Android
+ Case and weight
+ Battery ~10h
- Im super bored by the not-at-all customizeable springboard (Winterboard wont help much here, it mostly just changes colors and cydia widgets do often not even work, take up too much ram or crash the springboard)
- Restricted usage in every possible aspect
Pros and Cons Android/Samsung Galaxy Tab S:
+ Even better display then Air 2 (?), better resolution and colors
+ Highly customizeable (unfortunately no cyanogenmod yet)
+ Better HW (wont help much in Samsung Tabs i guess...)
+ Freedom in the way i want to use it
- Laggy without cyanogenmod
- Less good/available apps/games
- Apps/games are not always optimized due to the mass amount of different hw in Android tabs/phones, which can cause a lot of problems
- Weaker battery ~7h
Most important aspects are customizing and apps/games availability. So im kinda torn... maybe someone here has tried both as this is just theory from my side.
Oh and then theres the Nexus 9... havent read much about it, but probably less laggy then Samsung.

Since you listed games as a selling point; Air2, if you're willing to spend, due to the much larger gaming catalogue and .. as you said.. they come first/perform better on iOS hardware.

Is there anyway you would just fix your ipad 4 and then keep it instead? I broke my ipad2 screen but found someone on craigslist who fixed it for 40 bucks (US). Way cheaper than buying a new one..

Well most here know that i would always pick Android over IOS.. BUT.. with tablets this is different. I've had many Android tablets in my hands, and they always get very fucking slow after a while. Even fully customized with custom kernel etc etc.. While the IPad 3 that i have here, never once showed any slowdown and kept working as it should for such a thing.
So i'll have to say here, go for the IPad.. Those Android ones always give regret (at least in my experience).. And this is coming from a huge Android "fanboy"..

I already ordered a Samsung Tab S 10.5 LTE... it has the best screen on the market, even better then the iPad Air 2, which was a huge argument for me.
I will fix my iPad 4 anytime soon, its anyway still usable... just 2 cracks going over the whole screen but barely visible. I already found someone who repairs it for about € 100,-.
Im just so freaking bored of iOS that at this point i cant go wrong with the best Android Tab out there... even if it sucks ass, ill be happy to go back to iPad Air 3 in a year while i still got my iPad 4.
And the truth is, i got stuttering on Safari/Chrome as well on my iPad 4, and since iPad 1 Safari/Chrome is crashing regularly due to low memory. Im sick of restarting Safari/Chrome every 5mins...
For gamers, the iPad is probably the better choice... for movies, videos, surfing and stuff the Samsung is probably a good choice as well... this feature alone is worth it

I'll be stuck with a lowly iPad Air while I buy my girlfriend iPad Air 2 for Christmas.. I'll have to demonstrate some extreme will power to not just open the thing myself and give her my old one.
The tablet she's been on this whole time is the original Galaxy Tab, it's showing its age! She doesn't seem too attached to Android and she does quite enjoy the iPhone, so I hope it's a good move.
If she hates it, then I get a shiny iPad Air 2 I guess.
