Right, so finally there is a vista patch to this excellent game (actually, I concider it to be one of the best game ever made)...
BUT.... read this:
Quote: | CM Barbarossa to Berlin Vista upgrades!
Thursday, 23 July 2009
Well, you know what they say. Good games don't die! Battlefront.com is proud to announce the immediate availability of a new v1.04 Vista upgrade for Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin. This upgrade officially adds support for Windows Vista. Special thanks to Philip Culliton for diving into our ancient code to figure out and fix the various issues introduced with Vista!
The Vista upgrade is not a free patch! It can be purchased for $5 as download only from the Battlefront.com store! |
Wtf?? 5$ for a patch to a game released 7 years ago!
Battlefront used to be my fav game company...nowadays I just concider them to be pathetic - even though im happy to see a patch to this game
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

They're crazy. Let's hope that other developers won't charge us for patches in future.

I read in their forum and their excuse was "how many companies do you know that support games 7 year old at all?".
Bad bad excuse!

It's not as if it adds much either...had it included new game engine I would gladly have paid 10 times more...

Starcraft has the longest support out of the games mentioned here.
Released 1998 -> Patch 2009

So yeah there are alot of games older than 7 years and still receiving FREE support SO IN YOUR FACE! Lets hope some bigger companies wont get in the same mood and start charging money for updates but i think not because people will just throw their money somewhere else BECAUSE most games nowadays freshly released are quite buggy and unplayable.

Nah, Battlefront thinks they can get away with it since they have a hardcore following. As far as I can see, noone has released a TB wargame such as the Combat Mission series.

I know I'd never pay for Windows Vista with my own money, so I can't really criticize Battlefront for thinking the same way.
