Okay so I have a ASUS P5B Motherboard and Im using the onboard sound card.

It uses Soundmax for audio settings and etc.

So I am using my mic for games, and randomly it would screw up and everyone else would tell me that all they hear from me is this loud static.

So I ran Sound Recorder to test it myself. I found that sometimes the sound would be a loud static, and other times it would be fine. It only Changes when I press stop and record. So if I press record and it's a loud static, it will always be unless I press stop and record again, then it might change back to normal.

So I opened audio settings and turned down my mic sensitivity (it was on max) to around 5%. Now times when it should be static it becomes normal volume (although there is still a very subtle buzz in the background) and times when it should be normal I get no sound at all...

Any help would be greatly appreciated Very Happy

Probably this has nothing to do with your problem, but i had a problem which was codec/driver related, when watching any videos, more than often, when i paused and resumed, i got a deafening static, which could only be resolved by going back or forth in the movie.

After a fresh install of drivers and codecs, it stopped happening

I have reinstalled my audio driver a few times (even tried older versions)...

is there other ways of reinstalling my codecs?

I don't really know if the codecs even interfere with the mic..

I know there are some codec packs that come with a force-remover for older codecs

Try other stuff, a different mic, settings, test it with other softwares, see if any app is messing with it

yeah Im planning on buying a new mic and returning it if it has the same problem.

I've tried practically every setting soundmax has given me and still no luck Sad I hope it doesn't have some kind of built in feature that changes the sensitivity of the mic depending on the sound it recieves...

other softwares? I know it does the same thing with CSS and BF2142.. Sad
