My computer got completely fucked today for absolutely no reason, and everything i tried to fix it didn't work. I couldn't even shut it down normally because it would lock up during the shutdown procedure. Anyway, i reinstalled a new copy of Win XP over the old one, and it seems to be working now. However, my hard drive letters have been completely shuffled. Is there any way to re-assign hard drive letters, for example changind the D:\ drive to C:\ and so on? Because whatever fucked my computer (virus, corrupt system files or whatever) obviously also changed around my drive letters, so there has to be a way to change them back.

You can try this. But really I would not recommend it. If you can format, then I would do that and reinstall Windows again with a fresh install, even more so if you had some virii. All the applications you have installed will assume that you still have the original drive letter, not to mention lots and lots of stuff in the registry.

Have you tried going to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management and tried changing the drive letters that way? You might have to do some shuffling to get the letters back to the drives you want back.
