Tarja (The original female voice) is no longer in this band due to her being kicked out because of her big head she was getting from the fame she brought to the band. Without Tarja there is no nightwish, granted the rest of the band is fucking superb but without Tarja...they'll never be able to be nightwish.
i never really liked opera-voice singing. With nightwish it was ok because of the novelty-factor and the distinctiveness it brought to the band. That said, i like what i heard from the new album much better than the older stuff.
