just because most of the new ones are the 79, especially if you get an elite. might have better luck getting a samsung if you buy a premium or a core from a mega store that has lots of older stock.

Buy the console. If it has a newer drive, call MS tech and tell em you got 3 rings and want a replacement. Good chance you'll get a refurb with a sammy or the other older drive.

My Premium CoD3 bundle from WalMart (Ontario location) came with the ms28 sammy. Also, I think you can buy those drives, possibly even premodded off ebay, so it shouldn't matter what you get.

My question though, are 3 ring replacement xboxes just as likely to fail os new consoles? Does MS fix whatever it is that causes 3 ring in their refurbs?

i can has computar?!

i've seen some samsung drives at ebay. sellers say it comes pre modded with xtreme fw.
so if they mod it with their x360, will the drive work with my x360?
isnt it supposed to be modded with my own xbox360?

I digged up an article I had read a while ago

http://www.megagames.com/news/html/console/microsoftconfessandfixrrodepidemic.shtml

Quote:
The open letter also states that Microsoft "have identified several factors that can cause a general hardware failure " and " have already made certain improvements to the console". Most probably, those improvements include an extra heat sink that Microsoft has been adding quietly to newly repaired consoles.

The drive must the unique key in its FW that is matched to your console. So no ,you cannot buy a preflashed drive and have it work in any 360

Did you even read it? (You posted the same link two times btw.)

The replacement cannot be done without the key of the original drive

You can't just use a drive that was preflashed by someone else. You'll have to flash it again with your own key.

i bought the console in september, after six months it died.
the console itself gives a lot of problems, then i have to find my way to fix it.

It's not like you even need to do that anyway. You get a replacement for free as long as you bought it from a reputable store.
