|
 |
I got a 360 with Xtreme 4.2 firmware. I wasn't online for a long time, I unplugged the cable a month or two before that big ban wave.
Now I'm wondering... if I go online with XTreme 4.2 with an original game disc, would I get banned?
Or even without any disc in the drive, so I can just download a demo or something.
I guess it is the firmware that's getting you banned but I thought I'd ask just in case.

If you're lucky you are not banned, a little unlucky and you're banned.
I wasn't online for maybe a 2 weeks before the bans and 3 weeks after. Tried to connect a week ago and I am banned.
Played GoW and Crackdown over live ("backup" discs)...

I have a Hitachi... However it's not the firmware that get you banned it is the reading and how the disc behaves that gets you banned.

so that means if I go and buy a game then I can play it online with my old xtreme4.2 firmware, assuming that microsoft did not tag me for banning before I stopped playing online half a year ago?
Anyone else care to confirm that?
I'm just skeptical about that because I always thought it's mainly the firmware that's responsible.
This is from Wikipedia:
"According to Microsoft, consoles with firmware of unknown origin, quality or intent were banned permanently from Xbox Live."

as far as I know it's not the firmware that gets you banned but the challenge responses from the disc-checks. The dashboard checks with the DVD-drive and looks for incorrect responses and similar.
You can read more over at xbox-scene and in this thread:

However all playing online with backups and/or flashed firmware should be considered risky and might lead to a ban.

4.2 + original games?
and yeah, my 360 had the red ring of death a while ago and I fixed it using the 12 cent fix.
It's been working fine ever since I did that, but I guess it could still die any minute.
I'm playing almost nothing on it because I want it to live long enough for me to play assassin's creed and mass effect. Right now it's only been reactivated after collecting dust for months because of halo 3.
