Ok, so I just got settled in my new place and I'm looking to play some of the newer games that I missed out on in the past! I'm still running a pretty old firmware on my machine (I believe the drive was a Hitachi).

My question is simple; Do I need to upgrade my firmware to play the latest games? Is there any benefit as a Hitachi user for upgrading my firmware (single layer games being the only thing I really care about)?

I don't play online and I don't care about live.

The only thing you will get from the newest firmware is better live-safety. Nothing is really sure though as noone REALLY knows what MS checks for.

You burned need to bitset DVD+R DL to DVD-R (which Pioneer 111D and the like does automatically).
