|
|
Quote: | Finally we can play all those Eidos games… ON STEAM! They’re selling complete sets like the Commandos, Tomb Raider and Hitman franchises. Which is awesome but wait, there’s more! New Eidos games will also be released on Steam and there will be more waves of Eidos games coming to Steam. The next wave will be announced in the coming weeks. In the mean time you can grab yourself a Steam copy of one of the Commandos games, one of the Hitman games, Battlestations Midway and Just Cause if you don’t have one of these classics already. The huge advantage of games on Steam is that not only can you download the game right after purchasing it, but you’ll never have to worry about updates any more either since Steam downloads these before you can start the game, which could be a downside for dial-up users but at least you’ll no longer have to worry about game servers not having the same version. And a few weeks ago Steam was updated with the feature to download Steam updates but not requiring you to immediately installing them. Steam will download the update while you’re gaming and then when you exit Steam and later boot it back up Steam will quickly install the update. Steam was once a worthless POS but it has evolved and I really like it now. It just makes life easier. Here’s a snippet from the press release:
“Eidos is delighted to add Steam to our extensive digital distribution network. Steam represents an opportunity to distribute our games electronically to millions of gamers around the world,” said Tom Marx, Senior Business Development Manager: New Media at Eidos. “It also provides us a direct connection to these extremely active PC influencers who frequent Steam as a source for new content and information. As a result of being a spotlight feature on Steam this year, we expect to see sales of Tomb Raider: Anniversary benefit across all channels.” |

Will they tweak the Baldurs Gate games to work with XP?
Playing Baldurs Gate 1 on XP with a high resolution would be pretty sweet!
Free Update Offers New Community Features for Connecting Gamers
June 20, 2007 -- This summer Valve will ship a major update to its online gaming platform Steam, introducing an advanced set of community features to more than 13 million gamers around the world.
Beginning in July, Steam users can set up their own personal Steam pages and profiles, create and join groups, schedule games with friends, review who they've played with, see how well everyone played, chat with groups, chat via voice, and more. These new community services and features can be used with all Steam games, which include new releases and classic titles from leading publishers and independent developers.
Free of charge, the new community features will be accessible via the Steam desktop client and via the web.
"Our community has given us great direction on the ways they want to see Steam evolve," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Adding these new community features to make it easier to connect with other gamers is something we've wanted to see on Steam for a long time and this latest update is just the start. We've got a long list of items that we're working on to make it easier for gamers to connect and play games on Steam."
This upgrade marks the largest extension to the Steam platform since its first commercial release in March 2004. In its three year history, Steam has defined the next generation online gaming platform delivering hundreds of games to millions of users with services such as Guest Passes, Automatic Updates, Free Weekends, and allowing gamers to access their games from any PC.
