OK, after 2and a half years i'm gonna upgrade my box at the end of the month cos although i don't really play games often, like 3 a year maybe, i would like the option to play more gfx intensive stuff and also start to get into HD more.

not gonna bother posting my current specs unless someone really wants them, basically i am looking to buy.

New MSI mobo which has everything i want on it so no advice needed there.

AMD AM2 dual core 4600+
2GB Kingston DDR2 dual channel memory
I already have a 160GB IDE HDD (OLD! but it works) and a 250GB sata so im not sure if i'm gonna be buying extra or not yet (probably will)
Got Dual NEC DVD Writers that do the job fine so they'll stay too

Now my main thing is GFX, to be totally honest i'm lost when it comes to gfx cards cos i don't play games so i did myself a mini crash course today.

Basically i know that the 8800 is what everyone is recommending atm, HOWEVER, i cant justify paying for it if i don't hardly play games and will probably wait to buy a real nice one until DX10 games start coming out widespread!

Soooo after much deliberation i'm looking to get an ATI X1950 Pro! and wanted opinions.

Any advice appreciated with the exception of anyone who is totally opposed to ATI card or wants to flame in anyway lol.

Cheers Razz

hmmm I dun care for ATI as you know from MSN but this card is the same price as my 7900GS KO and out performes it in a few areas. I say go for it. That will be perfect for HD movies Smile

As for the IDE, don't feel bad, I still have my OS on an 80gig IDE Razz Storage though I bought a 500 WD SATA and STILL isn't full and I bought it last summer I think.

Now if you DO go kingston I personally recomend getting the hyperX series, but dunno if they sell them at the store you were browsing through.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=40000147+1052108080&Description=kingston+hyperX&name=240-Pin+DDR2+SDRAM

And seeing as your UK I can't confirm the customer support for ya out there but I had to deal with them before and I even told them I tried over clocking the memory and killed it and were still going to replace it for free.

Other than that everything looks good. Now just wait for all the core 2 duo smuts to come in here and yell at you to go intel instead Razz
