Xtreme 5.3 A/B/C/D Released For Samsung.
Xtreme 2.4 Released For Hitachi 47 drives
I would recommend Samsung users upgrading to 5.3 before going on Live after the spring update and update to 2.4 if you have Hitachi.

I couldn't care less for Live, since I'm not a multiplayer kind of person, but if they'll prevent offline too, well that's trouble...
But than again, these thoeries always come out before dash updates and till now - nada. Maybe we'll be lucky again.

Sounds from the note as well that he's releasing a Xtreme version for Hitachi drives at some point, which is great, cause I really don't like the Garyopa stuff.

If you still have the original firmware (and you should!), you can just reflash back to the original if something bad happens.
I'm just gonna sit back and relax and read the reports that comes back after the updates before I do anything with the 360.

ok u guys seem to not quite understand what they are doing, they area using code in the update that will let MS know when u play a backup in your modded 360, thats it, u may be ok for the next week or 6 months then when they have got enough info on the amount of copies being played around the world ie: % of ppl playing 360 backups then they will take some form of action in my opinion revoking your gold accounts and only allowing silver accounts for modded boxes. as for waiting to see what happens u are going to wait a long time as it could take along time for MS to act on the info they are gathering. now come tommorow lots of ppl will be reporting i have done the update and all is fine, correct but the seed is in place and MS will now be getting what they want ' info on backups then WAM' good luck.
As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

Is this speculation or do you know?
If you know, can you answer a couple questions please.
Will it be linked to the whole system or the specific profile?
Will they store a local database of information or just perform a standalone test when the user tries to play a multiplayer game?
If you don't know, what's the point in implying you do?

It will probably be worth buying two 360s if the worst happens. There's only about 5 or 6 games I play on live anyway and they tend to be in the lull between waiting for the next game to be released tbh.
Wonder wether the sites that sell modded 360s will start getting asked specifically for Samsung based consoles.

Seems like they would shoot themselves in the foot to be honest. Would I suddenly buy originals of the copies I have? No! Some aren't woth buying. As it is, I buy Live arcade games and buy add ons for existing games I have. MS would immediately lose that revenue, which is better than them getting bugger all from me. Time will tell I guess.

who cares TBH, if you get banned you get banned, all part of the fun. If you have a flashed 360 you know the risks, its certainly nothing to be worried about

I reckon if MS do include code to find out if people are using backups the modders will find a way around it.

the reason for caring is, if you can avoid getting banned, then why not just be smart and take the appropriate actions to avoid wasting all the money you've put into live!

Of course, but there is no guarantee for either part:
1) If Microsoft will start banning people
2) If 5.3 or any future firmware versions will be able to 100% cloak the firmware and the fact that you are using burned discs

until they bring it out on the next game, then you'll be banned anyway (unless they firmware guys do something inbetween)
whats £40 and a few arcades compared to shedloads of backups and money you have saved, if you lose them you've saved money elsewhere. Probably most who have backups have probably saved themselves enough cash to go out and buy a non flashed one anyway if they was smart. I know i did

If the update would only ban you from Xbox Live that would be ok. As long as backups still work offline I'm happy. I really hope they won't change that.

Think the logical conclusion is:
After the update if:
There are some bans:
Be smart, check the web before logging back on, and decide the pro's and cons of your options, buy another console, or only play online with bought games, depending on how MS has implemented the security checks.
There are no bans:
Then assume that they may be gathering information to ban people at a later date so decide how important Live is to you before you play online with a backup.

the problem with just taking the 360 offline is that you can be sure this dash update will be included with some forthcoming big games, possibly even starting with Forza 2.
so even for those that use their 360 solely offline, it wont really prevent M$ getting this onto the machines.

No, but they are only interested in stopping you using live, because it would be illegal for them to brick your machine.
So if you are intending to play backups, you may as well upgrade the dashboard anyway, because without the network connection, your 360 may know you are playing backups, but the bastard can't tell Bill.
Worst case for an unconnected machine, is for the backup to not load, because the system claims you are trying to use a backup, but then at least you know without being banned from anything.
