last I knew best buy only sells ram and vieo cards alone. With 500 dollar canadian I don't think that's going to allow you to do much. if you get more memory and a better card your CPU will bottleneck. You get better cpu and memory it'll all be pointless cause yoru gfx won't handle any of it and so forth. and with looking to get all that new stuff, you'll end up with about the same of a computer you got now. your going to need at least 1000 to do a decent upgrade and that would be to an outdated socket such as amd's socket 939 which is the cheapest way due to them not using DDR2. That's just my two cents though.

yeah i would advise either buying just ONE high end item, or saving the cash. id always rather have one great piece at a time, rather than a bumch of cheap slightly better products, that will ALL need replacing in a few months, making the purchase somewhat pointless.

This is purely my point of view and opinion but buying piece by piece isn't always the smartest thing to do, especially when your on limited funds like this guy. Something will come up and he'll use the money on something else and have this piece of hardware just laying around and not even knowing if it's going to be an RMA or not unless of course he has a friends computer to try it out on. Or by the time he finally gets his computer built, his warranty's are jeopardized cause he's waited so long to have it built.
but regardless dude, were all gunna tell you pretty much the same thing. Save your pennies for a real upgrade.

SpykeZ is right. Buying a full computer is usually more cheap than buying a bunch of parts and putting them together, and you get warranty with it. You don't have to buy a frikkin' Dell. Many hardware shops also puts together more or less a custom computer.
Of course if you're a hardware enthusiast and like to build your own computer 100% of the time, the choice is obvious, although a bit more expensive.

I totally agree with the above 100% (aside from buying anything as a pre-build, the only worthwhile pre-builds cost more than it would cost to built it yourself, the rest use the crappiest of parts to keep costs low).. I would advise you either buy a new GFX card and then hope you come into more money later on, or just wait. At least getting a new GFX card would allow you to play some newer games while you wait, but it may make that wait longer.

ah. ok. Upgrading my videocard seems like it might just be a waste tho because as soon as i upgrade anything else, i'll have to get a new videocard aswell. and that just seems like a waste.
This is what I was looking into getting and it meets my budget. IF you guys still dont think its worth the upgrade then i'll not upgrade.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2
1GB DDR2 800MHz
seems like a fairly good upgrade to what i have and would allow me to upgrade in the future without having to upgrade everything.
what yea think?
ATI X1650Pro PCI-Express 512MB Video Card

heh well looks like not a bad system there. Tho that doesnt help me much.
I could probably get slightly better parts then i found. I think the set up i found would be a great upgrade for me that would last a while, and aloow for easier future upgrades compaired to what I have now.

Or i could get this for less.
Biostar Tforce 570 SLI ATX AM2 DDR2 NFORCE570 SLI 2PCI-E16 2PCIE-1 3PCI SATA Gbe Sound Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Dual Core Processor Socket AM2 Windsor 2.6GHZ 2000FSB 2X1MB 90NM Retail Box
Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB 2X1GB PC6400 DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit
ATI X1650Pro PCI-Express 512MB Video Card
I can get that all minus the videocard for 403 dollars. and the videocard is covered by the best buy card, minus like 70 dollars extra i'd have to pay. which is still within the budget. thought?

It'll save ya a few bucks if you find an OEM of your CPU. Theres really no need for all the extra crap it comes with especially since stock heatsinks suck. Same with the video card. I usually just like my hardware and a driver disk, I don't need all the extra cables n crap.

ya know...I obviously wasn't paying attention as using a driver disk is pointless and I haven't even used one in ages. I always update from the net lol
