Sorry if this question shouldn't be in its own thread but I couldn't find a general Xbox360 questions thread or anything and this question has been bugging the shit out of me.

In my room I have my PC, monitor and headphones (among other non-essential things like a bed). I unfortunatly do not own speakers due to waking parents up countless times and I geniunly prefer using headphones. I've looked around but I can't find a definate answer:

Can you connect headphones to a 360 when displaying on a VGA monitor through the VGA adapter? I know you can buy an adapter to change the red and white wires to a normal headphone jack, but I need to invert it so it goes in the way (as you can tell i'm very AV savvy) because my headphones are a normal jack like I suspect most are!

From what I have been reading if you have a computer you can connect the VGA adapter to the line in port on the computer and use headphones from there but I have no idea how that's done. Any help or alternate methods would be appreciated!

u can either connect it to pc or u can get cheap pc speakers with headphones output
first u need something like this

RCA to Jack adaptor
connect audio output from 360 to pc


or if your vga cable set has
first on the left
cable and your audio pc card has spdif, u can connect it to pc directly and have 5.1, but u still need pc to control volume or multimedia keyboard that has volume control

choice 2
u need something like this



this way u can control sound without dingling with pc = easy, but stereo only, u might need another adaptor for pc speakers, depends on speakers

of course u can get this cable
rca female to jack female

to connect your xbox to hf directly but u won't have any direct volume control , except go to game options/audio etc

ELIZ gave perfect details, and also remember you PC will have to be on in order to hear sound is you go the line in route. I use my monitor when I wanna watch TV while playing
