- Official web page: LINK

- Release date:
US: September 2010
- Story/Description:
Quote: | Take command of your company as you wage online warfare across the ravaged battlefields of World War II-era Europe.
Choose from one of six different divisions, from the brutal German Blitzkrieg to the deadly efficient Allied Airborne, each with its own combat style and unique abilities. Strategize on and off the battlefield as you customize your army and enter each fight with your own unique set of battle-tested Heroes, upgrades, and devastating Commander Abilities. Become the ultimate military commander as you unlock new abilities with every conflict and build your army with every victory.
|
- Multiplayer: Yes
- Preview(s): Destructoid
- Screenshots: IGN
No topic on this, so here we go. This is a free to play game (with microtransactions), based on the popular Company of Heroes real time strategy video games. It is said that microtransactions would only be good for people who do not wish to play in order to advance, so theoretically, people who are willing to play and advance in ranks and points, should find it enjoyable without spending a cent.

I hope GW lets them do something similar with Warhammer 40K. Gimme my Imperial Guard.

I doubt THQ would allow it, as it would be a direct competitor to the 40K MMO (and probably much better - imagine a Dawn of War 2 type of MMO in a huge persistent world), so it would split the customer base, and most would go the free anyway.
They are doing this because they can't milk the CoH cow any more, so they are taking everything and rehashing it as "CoH:O" and hope they get enough micro-transactions to make some more bucks. CoHO has been in beta testing in the Asian market for quite a while with a third-party developer (probably a cheap one), so it is practically risk-free for both Relic and THQ.

Mhh, I own CoH and all the AddOns. What's the difference with CoH:O then? oO

CoHO has a lot of MMO elements, like heroes (which command the units and give them bonuses), bonus cards etc (that give small boosts in certain attributes). Read the attached Destructoid preview for more information.
Also, people who have purchased previous CoH games will supposedly get a bonus in gratitude for their support.

Going to have to relearn the game. This looks like fun is coming to pc gamers.
From the official sight.
We are preparing for internal testing of Company of Heroes Online and as part of these preparations we will be making updates to Companyofheroes.com. Some of you may notice changes to your account page, specifically a place to enter a beta key. This change is simply in anticipation of future testing, no keys have been sent out at this time. We will make sure you all know where and when you can participate in our beta testing as the time arrives.
Signing up right now.

It does seem kinda lame how the british and PE aren't in though. Oh well.
Edit: I just thought about this. I hope to god the upgrades you get from progressing/microtransactions aren't timed. Like in 9/10 asian online games, you buy shit and get to keep it for a week or so.

They've had this here in Korea for a little while. I played it a bit. It is interesting. it changes the game slightly, but not really that much.
Upgrades are based on uses.
you need to use points to buy more uses for those things.
Intel i5 6500 3.2Ghz, Geforce 970GTX 2GB, 16 GB Ram, Windows 7

Maybe they have a problem with their mail server?

Have you tried beating your head against the wall? I mean.. it wouldn't do much but it would do about as much to solve his problem as restarting his computer would.

Two birds, one head...beat my head against my computer until it restarted.
Nah, I've tried everything, even another registration.

Try another email? I know some sites don't send emails to certain "email hosts". Like there are quite a few who don't send to yahoo emails.

PCGamer takes a peek at CoHO:
http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/07/19/company-of-heroes-online-preview-shellshock/
Quote: | Whether it’s your division commander, or the new new army items and hero units gifted by random drops after every battle, the additions made by Company of Heroes Online are all about specialisation. Army items are assigned to your base before a fight, and can grant general buffs to certain types of troop, making your tanks move quicker, for example, or improving the accuracy of your Riflemen. Hero units, meanwhile, are unique special units that gain experience on the battlefield, earning new abilities every time they level up. These abilities vary from a simple increase in sight radius to, in one case, an Axis Halftrack that can self destruct on command to cover an area in flame. |

No no, September 2010 is the release for the "west" (inc. Europe ); it has been in testing in the East ( ) for quite a while.
Can't really understand why... Perhaps they have high tolerance for bugs and are still willing to drop loads of cash for microtransactions?

My guess is they just wanted to try it there first to see if the idea would actually work.
