Dam and I was starting to get happy hoping that they would have to sell thier assests to talented developers...
(Mind you all that Fallout 3 will NOT be made by BlackIsle's or anyone who use to work at BlackIsle's since they were all laid off.)
But it still doesn't state how interplay will pay off thier bills. they only had 1 million in cash... and they owed 450k for rent and 350k to bioware.

Who says its released? All I see there is a drowning ship who is desperately trying to survive the storm. They won't make it though, because to make it you actually need to be able to make right decisions and make good games.
Fallout 3 is as dead as it was.

I dont understand this. Why is Interplay holding on to the Fallout licence if they're not planning on doing anything with it?
Do Troika want to buy the rights? Or they're just thinking on purchasing it?
Also, if Interplay ultimately closes down, will that mean the the Fallout licence will be on the loose, and can be bought by anyone?
lol... so many questions... sorry...

I think they are holding Fallout licence cause they are waiting for the highest bidder, or they think they can come back and start working on the game, maybe a title that will save thier burning ass.
As long as I see it there would be no Fallout 3 in the future unless there is a company that is ready to pay up, and I suspect it's not cheap.

they need to just accept it and die. just like origin fucked itself over from the great company it once was, so has interplay. i wont miss interplay in the least. now with sir-tech, there was a great loss. with interplay, they doomed themselves by treating the creative geniuses like shit. of course with so many of the classic names in publishing and developing gone, it is hard to see who will take the reigns. besides some exceptional groups in europe and former russia it almost feels like the dark age of gaming, at least as far as pc gaming goes.

upstart how can u say that? fallout was 1 of the best RPGs around. fallout 2 was better but not as groundbreaking. eitherway im sure fallout 3 would have added a lot to the genre to make it more playable. o well i do hope it'll be released. and if the company is dying im sure the license wont cast as much as it would've 5 yrs ago

This news doesn't mean anything; Interplay will close again as soon as the next crisis happens. The only thing interesting to note is at the end of the article:
No specific assets were mentioned as being on the block, although last week, Titus founder Herve Caen told GameSpot he was "working on a lot of deals" regarding Interplay and its properties.
This suggests that Interplay won't be dragging down the Fallout franchise with it after all. Not to mention Baldur's Gate and the like.
BTW, unlike Sir-Tech, which made great games right up to its death, and Origin, which was bought and gutted by EA, Interplay has no one to blame for its problems but itself. It was once a great developer and one of my favorites, but I have no sympathy for it now.

Fuck interplay.
Fallout 3 WOULD HAVE been awesome, no doubt about it. #1 & 2 are my favorite RPG's, but they dismantled black isle studios, so any attempt on Interplay's part to make Fallout 3 would be a quick cash grab.
I'm hoping they sell the license to a decent developer.

Wise words there, sir. I don't see how anybody can express good emotion when hearing about Interplay still breathing, however temporary the status. Why?
Interview with a Fallout 3 Developer wrote: |
GB: At the time of the studios' closure, how much of Fallout 3 had been completed? How much more development time do you feel the title needed before it could have been considered "complete"?
John: The engine was about 95% done. You could create characters, use skills, perform both ranged and melee combat, save/load games, and travel across maps. We had a tutorial level done that would let you do all of the above. All areas but one had been designed. About 75% of the dialogs were done and at least 50% of the maps. We had character models and monster models.
If Interplay had supported us as they had promised and given us needed resources from other divisions we would have finished the game on time. Possibly even ahead of schedule. |
Interview is located here, but it does come from the mouth of one person, so bias may exist. He seems objective to me, though, and I sure as hell trust him more than any screwup that's still at Interplay.
Fuck Interplay. I don't regret spending more than $400 on their games, but I wish they hadn't forsaken Black Isle in favor of that console Fallout abomination...
