If you have used Apps such as 'Your Uninstaller 2006' then you will know these little gems will uninstall any game/app and get rid of ALL the crap aswell.. Reg entries/redundant lib files/orphan files etc..

My question is: Does a Hard drive backup app exist that does more or less the opposite?
The ones ive used can backup whole HD's or dirs off Hd's etc.

I install all my uils and game son my D:\ partition and i'd like to know if theres a Hd backup prgo that when i browse to a certain installed app (lets say D:\utils\nero) then the prog will not only backup the install dir but also automatically 'grab' all registery entries, lib files in other words ALL associated files.

So in the event of a HD crash i can just do a fresh install of the O.S (not backup)l, then proceed to restore all the apps or games ive made backups of?

i realise i could just backup the entire contents of C:\ and D:\ but to be honest it would take loads of blank DVDS and its a waste. Because I only want a few progs back in the event of a crash.. can add the unimportant stuff later..

Hope my ramble is clear? Very Happy any help appreciated thanks..

Reg i may be a little confused by what your askig for but its sound slike you want somethig commerical like symantec ghost with incremental backups installed, this backups everythign the first time which yes takes ages but then it just doesn anythig else you have done since the last backup and is supposedly pretty quick and i "think" you can select to backup the OS and the selectef folders on incremental,

From re reading what you want it seems you want something that isnt possible as far as i know. again im not a programmer like yourself but if you do a "fresh" install of OS doesnt the registry change anyway so any previous registry keys from a previous OS (even if the OS is identical from the same disc/image) would be useless i am pretty sure

Thanks for the reply mate.. im not sure its possible either.. as to the registry . i think its possible to backup the entire registry in a file and overwrite the 'new' installation of the registry.. so as long as the utils/games i had installed are on a backup aswell (with all associated libs etc) then all should be as it was.

Or maybe i'm after something which is just not possible Smile

i think its a bit too "hit and miss" tbh. id say incremental backups of the whole system are the best option.
