|
 |
I have two computers, one has a legit version of Vista and the other is loaded with Bill Gates. I have activated the legit version and wrote down the Confirmation number, I am curious as to whether this number can be entered into the Bill Gates PC for activation or is there a built in system that stops that sort of thing? I thought about testing it myself but dont want to have to reinstall if it bombs. Thanks for your time and information.

The confirmation number is generated from the activation number and the number you give them over the phone. The number you give them over the phone was generated on the hardware in your pc...model/production codes off your hard drive, processor, memory, vid card, motherboard. So the final number is computer spcific.
Who put the bomp in the bomp-a-bomp-a-bomp
Who put the ram in the ram-a-lam-a-ding-dong
Who put the bop in the bop-she-bop-she-bop
Who put the dip in the dib-de-dip-de-dip

That cant be ENTIRELY correct surely? If it was egnerated by all hardware in your system then a generator would have been made by now i imagine. also that would mean that microsoft would be obtaining information about ALL of the hardware in your system which i am pretty sure violates privacy laws. it may be VISTA specific but i doubt its computer/hardware specific.

It is hardware specific. Microsoft is not able to find out exactly what hardware you have, they get a hash value of the codes. It's the same in XP.

Why go with all the trouble of writing so many numbers, when you can just install one of those one-click bios emulators. You get Vista activated in no-time. I'd go the same way with a legit Vista as well. It's hellofalot faster than having to put down the serial during setup.

thats part of the reason for reactivation if you change hardware in your PC. you nay be able to swap memory or vid card but if you change enough at one time xp will require reactivation.

Doesn't it require reactivation only if CPU and/or motherboard are changed? Never dealt with activation myself...

i changed CPU and was not asked to reactivate, but 2 weeks later i changed memory and replaced vid card and needed to reactivate. i think it has to do with how much of a change within a certain amount of time. I could see a mobo causing an immidiate reactivate.
I just hate the whole process,i love to swap hardware and experiment, its my hobby, its my work...but now i have a vol lic so i dont deal with that anymore.

Well, yeah, it's stupid... But at least they allow you change hardware as much as you want and still be able to activate. That wasn't the original intention.
