Yahoo, Guild Wars 2 announced!!! I loved Guild Wars!!
Not too many details yet, I guess some magazine that hits shelves April 3rd has the "exclusive details".
They did confirm the return of the no subscription fee though.
Oh yah they also announced another expansion for Guild Wars, Eyes of the North, which is supposedly end-game content for the veteran players as opposed to another "start here with a new character if you want."
Yahoo for GW2!

Yawn.
There's a reason Guild Wars was subscription free, and I'd rather pay the subscription for an MMORPG. Sequels never turn out well anyway, especially in the MM market - See, Everquest 2, Asheron's Call 2

Guild Wars was fun, it got boring after awile, the only thing I hated was the trading. The weapon trade was SOOO linear, nothing much different to the weapons from one another so made it boring for trade, wasn't enough.. difference like in DII which woulda been awsome. Also hated the Armor bit, it was awsome you had to craft it but costs so much it was hard to keep up with shit, and you couldn't trade it which was a drag. IMO if they did the weapons/armor like in DII, the commuinity woulda been ALOT funner. Especially since gold is actually worth gold. Collecting and trading woulda been alot more vast.

Yeah I totally agree, although maybe not quite as random as DII because it could cause major balance issues without much effort. We can only hope huh?

[sYn] wrote: | I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one Phluxed. The GW2 bit, not the generic sequel bit.
There was a reason guild wars was free, and it worked pretty well.. they have been given a good 2/3 years (??) worth of feedback from the users and can now go forward to make guild wars 2 the game that it should have been all along. The biggest issues GW1 had was the lack of customization, the linear character movement (destroying any chance of real tactics) and the difficulty of PVP play for those people who couldn't guild. They have already said the first 2 of these will be sorted (well, new player races is at least a step in the right direction for the first).. and I can only begin to imagine what they have planned PVP wise. They have said that the game wont be instanced though ! Its a step in the right direction and it will remain free to play! |
I can understand your hopes, and I can't disagree with the logic itself. I trust in omens, and I've decided never to buy a sequel to an MM regardless of who makes it or what kind of feedback they have.
I think I'm going to have to change my sig/avatar to Age of Conan stuff, because thats where I'm putting my money.
The first game that will have legit character movement it would seem is Age of Conan. Everquest 1 was very... sticky, but it was the closest thing we've had to date. There was so much wrong with guild wars 1 in comparison to the Free MM's it was crazy. The 'Content' updates could've been done by someone in their basement, and the content that came with the game felt the same. I love polish, it's the most important part of a game to me. Not the insane engine, or the ridiculously good music, it's the polish, something *I* found Guild Wars lacked.
Clearly many people disagree, as many people play it to this day, as those people say WoW sucks, and many people play that. However, I stand by feelings, albeit gut, that this game will not fill a void anywhere in the world of computer gaming, and will be one of those 1 boxers at Best Buy shortly after release (you know, the game you only see 1 row of boxes instead of the massive sellers where its all over the store)

Just because it isn't that important with levels it dosn't mean it sucks. Its more about tactics... even tho I found the game boring after some time.

Well DII wasn't really random after the expension since the unique items and the runewords took over the rares (yellow and random stats) as the best items in the game so everyone pretty much looked the same/used the same stuff at higher levels. (only thing still random was rings and amulets but even then almost everyone used duped ones).
It was much better pre LOD when the rares where at the forefront of the game.People all had different equipments/looked differents and it made trading was much better.I never understood why blizzard decided to change it.

I'm sure the reason why Guild Wars being subscription free wasn't the quality of the game rather they knew they could make a good profit and fan base if they made the game retail but also free of monthly fees. It certainly worked and made them compete with the rest when they would probably be bankrupted if they hadn't today whether the game is good or not.
As for Asheron's Call 2 it wasn't a bad MMORPG it just had a really bad beta that put off many people who would have subscribed to it. After the beta the real problem was the amount of subscribers that gradually fell even lower to the point if you weren't in a guild you would be lucky to even see another player. One thing I will never forget is how they got rid of the forums that was open for everyone to see including non beta players almost every thread started was some sort of complaint or revealing a major bug such as the AI chasing after another player who simply walked by during a battle (god that was annoying) Sadly they tried to mask the problems instead of aiming to fix them during the beta.

Gfx is better than in WoW. Well, on the other hand even a GW1 looked way better than WoW. Graphics are not an issue, hope they'll make game fun like they did with original GW. It's all that matters to me in games.
Looking forward to it.

Not another "wow" comaprison again ffs, get over it, wow is wow its good for wow, did i say wow? yeah... wow is good end of no need to say oh this is better than wow, its pretty much pointless, unless of course blizzard made GW as well. Which they dont..
If its still an enclosed lack of skill choice on your bar game as in GW1 it wont be no different.. Everyone will just be scammed as usual with the overly visual changes and locations.. Give me your money people its easy im robbing you blind..

Dont get me wrong, i still play gw (r7+ 10 pve chars, all stuff unlocked) but i was hoping a leap as regards gfx. Look at gw prophecies and gw nightfall, quite and improvement in some scenarios and effects (water) or fire -in eye of the north woods.

GW2 is going to fail. Maintaining a persistent world costs too much. The 'instanced' nature of GW 1 kept costs down and effectively allowed it to survive while dozens of other MMOs bit the dust.
