I am getting a weird issue with some games. I would like opinions as to whether this is the Xbox itself or the DVD-R's that I am using.
What happens is that, for example on Full Spectrum Warrior, the game will carry on playing (or stutter or even freeze in the case of Dead to Rights) but the background music will stop and I can hear the xbox dvd drive whirring and clicking. It will then 'recover' itself and carry on playing the game. I am using Xecutor modchip (v1) and Ritek Ridisk DVD-R (purple G04 dye). Opinions please?

Hmm you're using discs of good quality so that's strange. Maybe you burned too fast or your drive is very dirty? Or did you use another program than gdfimage.exe to create the image file?

how old is your xbox? It sounds more like its your dvd-drive thats dying. You could try a cleaning kit and see if it helps. Maybe your lens is just dirty.
