They haven't really spent any money on marketing this outside Germany. The only way I found out was by visiting the German Settlers forums

the game is ok, but I found the animation was a bit Woden
Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

Oh man I'm starting to hate the stupid people on the official The Settlers II TNG forum. I asked a simple question asking why feature X (which was in Veni Vidi Vici) was replaced with feature Y (which was NOT included in Veni Vidi Vici), as replies I get stupid "answers" as these:
First is one who said "because that's what the developers did"
Then I asked why
Then again one says "because that's what the developers did"
Then I'm starting to get pissed, that's not an answer... I can see that they did that... but WHY did they do it?
And then one tell me that I've already gotten the answer twice (then pointing to the "That's what they did" line)... Doesn't any of those Germans understand the word "WHY" ?
And the last one also got in to a long "explanation" for "why" they did it... but that "explanation" is actually the opposite. He kept mentioning that the remake was made to get the feeling and gameplay from Veni Vidi Vici back, and if the developers listened to everything the users wants, then it would end up like some AoE clone...
now WTF does that have to do with why feature X was not included in the game? Feature X was one of the great things that really defines the feel of a Settlers game, not including it in the game takes away some of the Settlers feel. And the feature they included instead has NEVER been part of a Settlers game and is just as useful as a penguin on the Moon
One also asked "if this missing feature was that great, then how come nobody else has posted that they wanted it back"... This clearly shows that he wasn't around when the remake was just released, as back then there were several threads about this (filled with posts about people who wanted it back). I stopped visiting the forum two weeks after release, and during the time I was there I already saw two threads about it
Ok, now I'm done ranting, I feel much better now
