Perhaps some of you know this stuff. I'm looking into getting new parts for my machine including a new mobo. I would like to be "prepared" for future developments to some extent at least and so i want my mobo to have a PCI Express 4X slot. Now what i don't know is, can you run PCIE 1X cards in a 4X slot? Because afaik you can run 4X cards in 16X (PEG) slots. Are the 4X slots downwards compatible as well?
Basically i'm just asking because the mobo i would want to buy is the Asus P5B-E Plus, which has a 4X slot but only one 1X slot and since i don't know what the future holds i might need a second 1X slot one day and beat myself over the head for not doing the proper research in time
